YesAsia Editorial Description

Shimomura Yuji, famed action director of the cult hit Versus, makes his directorial debut with the action fantasy film Death Trance. With Shimomura at the helm, the film is packed with kinetic energy and inventive, nonstop action from beginning to end. Versus star Sakaguchi Tak brings out the fists and the charisma, and he finds a worthy sparring opponent in Kentaro Seagal, Steven Seagal's son in his action film debut. Set in an unknown time and place, Death Trance imagines a beautiful, fantastical world of samurai and spirits and tears it apart with over-the-top action. You've never seen anything quite like Death Trance!

At the mystical Tougan Temple, there lies a mysterious coffin with enormous powers. According to one legend, he who opens the coffin will be granted any wish his heart desires. Another legend says that a goddess of destruction is trapped within the coffin and release will bring on the apocalypse. Upon learning of the legend, lone swordsman Grave (Sakaguchi Tak) steals the coffin and embarks for the forbidden western forests, the only place where the coffin can be opened. His escapade, however, attracts the attentions of many people who also want the coffin, making his journey west full of chaotic obstacles and frenzied fighting. A young monk (Suga Takamusa - Sakigake! Cromartie High) from Tougan Temple and a powerful warrior (Kentaro Seagal) determined to get the coffin are both hot in pursuit. Who will have the coffin in the end, and exactly what - or who - is in it?

I'm a little lost.. Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
The stunts are stunning, the location is ok. However, i am a little lost in this film. I do not understand the role of the child. Why she's there all the time, why she goes with the casket and the ending.... it's a bit weird. Does that mean that because angels are falling from the heavens, it means that there is war happening?? And what's next??

Maybe a sequel will answer the question/

A bit of a 1980's throwback Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
Don't expect anything epic with this movie nor should you expect anything as witty as Versus.

The plot is quite thin but the action scenes are great fun and done very well.
Sakaguchi Tak is again a wonderful actor to watch.

It really reminded me of 80's fantasy movies like Conan, which are wafer thin for plot but fun and silly to watch.

There is no real plot to this movie. The fight scene making you wanting to watch this movie more and more. I watched it with English Dub version.

Is there a part 2 to this movie.

Pretty cool Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Hard to describe this film actually..some scenes are really cool others are a bit less cool.
STill its a movie with lots of action in it.. not much of spare time!
Its kinda, as another person stated, final fantasy meeting storm riders in a way..

Scenery is from rather mediocre to really awsome and so is the fighting scenes.. so that's why its so hard to give a honest review.

Anyhow.. if you like Versus you will probably like this one..I liekd this more than Versus in a way, it has more variation in scenery than Versus.. though Versus has more blood in the fighting than this one!

Anyhow.. action you get!
