Taiwanese singer-songwriter duo Deep White is the new group to watch in 2008. Consisting of songwriter Arys Chien and female vocalist DY, the talented duo composed, arranged, produced, and penned all the songs in their original debut album. A noted composer in the Mando-pop industry, Arys Chien previously composed hits like Rene Liu's "A Life of Loneliness", Stefanie Sun's "Understand", and Angela Chang's "Really", and this time for his own album, the final ten melodies were carefully chosen out of close to 100 compositions he had written. Cold Silence is a clean, stripped-down number accompanied only by Arys Chien's acoustic guitar and DY's clear vocals. Other songs featured on Deep White's remarkable debut album include "Vanilla Sky" and title track Hua Huo.
This release comes with a 24-page booklet.

Sophomore release

I loved Deep White's debut album back in 2006. It was one of my top albums from that year and still holds a spot in my 5-CD stereo. I've been eagerly awaiting their second album and now it has arrived... It's a good album, but not quite as good as their debut. I have to admit that I had hoped for more, given that it took them a year and a half to finish this one. The songs aren't as immediately catchy but tend to grow on you. I still love the emphasis on piano and guitar and Duan Yu's vocals are as sweet as ever. Their style is the same - a mix of soothing ballads and energetic pop rock - which is a good thing, because I like their style. There's even some tracks with a distinct jazz influence. |
