Di Yu Men (DVD) (China Version) DVD Region 6

Directed by famous Japanese director Kinugasa Teinosuke in 1953, the film Gate of Hell (a.k.a. Jigokumon) won the Grand Prize in the Cannes Film Festival and also the Honorary Award at the Academy Awards, equivalent to today's Best Foreign Film. It also won at Oscar the Best Costume Design for all the glamorous ancient Japanese clothes on the actors and actresses. The film starts with an attempted coup in ancient Japan. A samurai saves the life of one of the court ladies and helps his lord to defeat the traitors. When his lord offers him rewards, he asks for the lady whom he has escorted. Unfortunately, she has already been wife of another samurai and she remains loyal to her husband. Yet he fails to let go of his desire for her, which eventually leads everyone to the Gate of Hell...

　　平清盛離開都城前往嚴島，一離開都城便發生了平康之戰，一夜間，清盛的所有住所都遭到了反清盛派的襲擊。平康乘機救了眾人。遠藤武士盛遠將渡邊渡妻子加娑平安的送到了哥哥盛忠的公館。盛遠受加娑的美貌所吸引。首都終於被反清派所佔領，清盛派的大臣也下了法性寺的山門地牢，在這種情況下，盛遠急速來到嚴島，報告了清盛。清盛率軍反攻一舉平息了暴亂。再次見到加娑的盛遠更難忘舊情。論功行賞時他希望得到加娑，遭到清盛的譏笑。原來加娑是清盛侍從渡邊渡的妻子。發了瘋的盛遠，對加娑和嬸母進行威脅。加娑深知如不順從，丈夫渡邊渡將會有生命危險，於是假意讓盛遠去殺自己的丈夫，而自己卻假扮成渡，結果被盛遠所殺。幾天后，盛遠剃光了頭，穿著僧衣，離家出去……
