In Chinese folklore, Song Dynasty poet Su Shi (a.k.a. Su Dongpo) has a younger sister named Su Xiaomei, who is no less intelligent than her famous brother. TVB co-produced a costume comedy drama series about the legendary lady with Shanghai Media Group in 2009, starring Mainland actress Dong Xuan (The Eight Heroes) as the eponymous character, and TVB's top actor Roger Kwok as her husband, Qin Shaoyou. A strong supporting cast includes Hong Kong actors Marco Ngai as Su Dongpo, Timothy Zao as his wife-fearing friend Chen Jichang, and Kingdom Yuen as Chen's fearsome wife Liu Yue'e.
Born in a family of scholars and officials, Su Xiaomei has not received any education as dictated by the traditional customs of the feudal society. But Xiaomei is a smart and strong-willed girl nonetheless. Turning down numerous marriage offers from matchmakers, Xiaomei eventually finds her true love in Qin Shaoyou and gets married with him. But the couple's close bond is under threat when the overbearing Xiaomei makes Shaoyou enter the national examination against his wish, which causes the unhappy Shaoyou to begin seeing other women. Angered by her husband's infidelity, Xiaomei decides to take him to court...
