I couldn't dig this film
|
Maybe it was just the REALLY bad English subtitles (probably not), but this film did not flow very well. Every time the plot took a new direction, I was puzzled about what was going on and had to guess which omitted details could possibly connect the current scene to the previous one. Otherwise, the film made no sense. The description off of the box is also completely wrong. Here's what the film is REALLY about (if I correctly filled on the plot holes): The police chief's daughter and a crime boss's son meet at a video game competition, once when they were little kids, then several years later after they've grown up. When they meet as adults, they fall in love and get engaged. The crime boss is arrested however, when the two fathers meet and recognize each other. The crime boss's son, who had been criticized for not participating in crime, announces to his family a scheme to steal 50 million ... but we see him next being hired to develop a computer game for 50 million. To complicate matters, the cop's daughter quits her police job and gets hired by the same software company, and the two have to share the same office. As they work on their "games," the crime boss's son and the cop's daughter continually sabotage each other with the help of their crook and cop friends. They eventually settle on a final competition whereby the crooks will try to break into some gangster's art vault, while the cops try to stop them with traps and security devices. (And what does this have to do with developing a video game?) The real trouble comes afterwards when the crime boss's son's two friends decide to go back to the gangster's place and steal his antique noodle bowl. This ganger's weapon of choice is a golden shovel, and if his own employees cross him he'll bury them alive (digs the hole himself, too). The film continues to be confusing all the way to the end. It was kind of funny at time, but it's really hard to laugh when you're busy trying to figure out what the heck's going on! |
