Kara Hui (My Young Auntie) returns as a mafia madam turned restaurateur in Do Unto the Other (1993), director Li Kwok Lap's follow-up to the same year's On Parole. One of four girls-with-guns flicks Li churned out in just eighteen months, Do Unto the Other and its previous installment aren't quite as canny as the director's other set of female action films, the Maggie Siu-starring Sting of the Scorpion and Murders Made to Order. Still, there's a lot of talent on display here, not the least of which is Kara Hui's undeniable onscreen charisma. Li's contributions to the genre have been long buried underneath a mountain of Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Khan vehicles; fans looking for a fresh find will be happy to unearth these forgotten gems.

Picking up where On Parole left off, Do Unto the Other opens with Hui back in charge of her family's restaurant and happily remarried to the head chef. In a wonderfully convoluted plot twist that could only be found in Hong Kong Cinema, her new hubby's ex-wife happens to be currently married to the crooked lawyer who sent Hui to jail in the first film. Figuring out that the lawyer set her up, Hui prepares for a violent confrontation, the unexpected results of which end up implicating her husband for murder. After working so hard to make an honest life for herself, Hui may have to throw it all away if she's to rescue her husband and exact her revenge.
