This album might just mark a turning point in William Chan's career. The song quality in the album is overall better than the previous album, "Warrior". Sure, "戰士" and "今天終於知道錯" were good radio plugs and sounded quite nice, but they didn't have anything special. While William hasn't improved at the dance genre in "Do You Wanna Dance", his ballads have certainly gotten better. "今天終於知道錯", while showing great vocal range, didn't have as much emotion as it could have had, especially since it was a cover. This time, William shows vocals that make a point in proving himself as more of a performer and not just an idol. Notable tracks: 01. "Flying Away" - 7/10. Extremely digitalized and with lots of effects going for it, William's voice isn't really discernible from the huge mess of sound that's going on. Sounds great as a dance track, however, and definitely worth a listen. One of those song's that are good when going for a drive. 02. "Do You Wanna Dance" - 7/10. A similar style as "Flying Away" but a little less digital, and with a more compact pulse. William voices the English quite well in this track without too much accent, but the song quality overall leaves a lot to be desired. 03. "穿心箭/Arrow Through the Heart" - 9/10. This is the best song in the album, in my opinion. It's a well-paced ballad with harmonic progression, and this is definitely William's best ballad to date. It's certainly a hit single that would be on karaoke charts and on iPods everywhere. 05. "大峽谷/Grand Canyon" - 8/10. This particular plug has a very similar style to "穿心箭" with a more dramatic melody and more vocal potential, but William doesn't sing this one quite as well as the prementioned hit. It's still a strong ballad and definitely deserves a mention. Overall rating: 7.5/10 - It's a strong 3rd album for William Chan, and his emphasis away from the dance style into ballads has proven to be a worthy gamble. Certainly recommended, as an album without many blips between. |
