2007 has already seen the airing of popular medical dramas The Great White Tower and Surgeon Bong Dal Hee, piquing audience interest in the genre, but the medical profession is hardly a new theme for Korean television. 2000's Medical Center and 90s dramas Sunflower and General Hospital, which will be getting remade soon, all revolved around the field of medicine, not to mention historical period dramas Hur Jun and Dae Jang Geum. One of the most memorable and representative medical dramas though has to be MBC's 1997 series Medical Brothers (a.k.a. Doctor Brothers), starring two of Korea's biggest stars, Jang Dong Gun and Lee Young Ae. Both gave breakthrough performances in this riveting drama, performing fairly daring love scenes by Korean television standards. Jang Dong Gun, in particular, departed from his usual good guy image to play a cool and complicated character.
Both brothers and rivals, Kim Su Hyung (Jang Dong Gun) and Kim Jun Ki (Son Chang Min, Woman of the House) are doctors at the same hospital. Young and promising figures in the field, Su Hyung and Jun Ki are dedicated to their profession, though not always as disciplined in other matters. Su Hyung's rash and insensitive personality often brings tears to his longtime girlfriend Min Joo (Lee Young Ae), who is also a doctor. The brothers face crises in both their personal and professional lives when Jun Ki's mistake leads to his friend's wife's passing and Su Hyung discovers a family secret concerning his identity.

Emotional movie

This is not your common k drama with lots of funny scenes. Very serious tearkjerker movie that will tug your heartstrings. Jang Jong Gun was particularly awesome as the brilliant surgeon that thinks he is God's gift to the world and women in particular. He does take the character and make him more human. Wonderful Drama. Buy this one you won't regret it. |

This is a must see series. The acting was fantastic. You will laugh, cry and cheer. You will not regret buying this series. The two brothers worked very well together. You will pick one as I did and either way, you will be happy. Don't let this go by. Get It... |

Excellent Actor...........

Jang Dong Gun, the handsome actor is one of my favorites. He did an outstanding job in this series with his excellent acting. This is a sad series that gave me puffy eyes from crying. If you are the sympathetic type, watch it! You will probably end up like me rooting for Jang Dong Gun, the central and tragic figure in this story whose existence despite all his flaws, will matter to you. You will find behind the cold facade and callous behavior, the playboy doctor played by Jang Dong Gun is a wounded soul longing for fatherly love and recognition. Just fast forward the unnecessary medical parts of the series and enjoy great performance by Jang Dong Gun. |

Doctor Brothers

I watched this drama twice. It was very touching and made me cry. Although the drama had the element of cancer-boring element in many korean drama, this one was exceptional as the ending was very meaningful. I appreciated Lee youngae very much, she often pick the social meaningful drama/film. The main actor is also handsome too. I will watch it again with korean sound later. |

I saw this drama not too long ago and it blew me away. The story is not extraordinary and some of the medical scenes might not be very accurate, but this is more of a human drama, than a medical show. In terms of acting, it was excellent all around. But I must mention Jang Dong Gun especially, as his performance of the cocky, suave and brilliant doctor was a stand out. He really humanised his character and made me care about what happened to him. The relationship between the brothers was moving too. Watch this if you want to see a touching story, it is not flashy the way Lovers in Paris or Winter Sonata are, just a basic good story about human relationships. |
