본 싱글은 일본 최고의 레코드사인 avex와 파격적인 대우로 일본 활동을 시작하게 된 동방신기의 일본 데뷔를 기념하기 위해 특별 제작.발표(2004년 11월 25일 발매)된 것으로, 국내 첫 데뷔 싱글 타이틀 곡이기도 한 “HUG(포옹)”을 영어버전으로 다시 불렀다. 동방신기의 “HUG(포옹/Korean Ver.)”과는 색다른 POP 아티스트적인 음악성이 한층 배어있는 “HUG(International Ver.)”는 BoA, EXILE, 코다쿠미의 히트곡을 다수 작사한 일본 최고의 작사가 Kenn Kato가 맡았다.

또한, 일본 최고의 감독인 노다 유지로와 이시바시 요시코가 감독하고, 타케이시 아유무가 연출한 “HUG(International Ver.)”는 동방신기 멤버가 일본에서 일본 활동 연습중에 직접 촬영한 것으로 국내에서의 이미지와는 또다른 색깔이 듬뿍 담겨있어 일본 내 뿐 아니라 국내에서도 이미 큰 화제를 모으고 있는 영상이다. 현재 음원 및 영상 유료서비스 사이트인 iLikepop(www.iLikepop.com)내에서 J-POP 뮤직비디오 1위를 차지하고 있을 정도.
