Entertainingly different samurai tale
|
"Dororo" begins with the vanquished Lord Daigo (Nakai Kiichi) hiding in the Temple of 48 Demons, where he pledges to give his soon-to-be born son to the demons in exchange for Daigo gaining victory over his enemies. The demons demanded that the babe be sacrificed (an evil take on the Abraham and Isaac story?) chopped up and divvied up among them. We next see a basket floating down a river (reminiscent of Moses). Reclusive scientist Jukai (Harada Yoshio) fetches the basket and finds in it a creature that looks like a large gourd-shaped lump of Play-Doh. It turns out to be what remains of Daigo's son after Daigo chopped him up. Jukai creates body parts and pieces together a boy (echoes of both Frankenstein and Pinocchio). The boy grows up to become Hyakkimaru (Tsumabuki Satoshi), a ronin roaming the world in search of the 48 demons who possess the various parts of his body. His body is sponge-like, making him difficult to defeat. Blades go right through him without hurting him. When he defeats one of them, he gains back a portion of his body and sheds an artificial body part. Consequently, as he succeeds at his mission, he becomes more human, and, ironically, more vulnerable to injury and death. Hyakkimaru is accompanied on his quest by the resourceful thief Dororo (Shibasaki Kou), who finds in Hyakkimaru a friend upon whom she can rely. Pursuing the demons ultimately leads Hyakkimaru to a fateful showdown with his father (Star Wars, anyone?). The special effects used to create the demons have a kitchy Ray Harryhausen quality. Shibasaki Kou's playfully childlike performance helps to keep the proceedings from becoming too grim; Tsumabaki Satoshi shapes a believably nuanced character out of Hyakkimaru. While the end of the film obviously anticipates a sequel, "Dororo" tells a satisfyingly complete story. I found it to be entertaining and exciting. |

REALLY WANT TO SEE THE SEQUEL!!
|
i brought this originally becuase i am great fan of Kou Shibasaki, but as i was watching it more and more i really like Satoshi's character, he is always so calm, and charismatic and by the middle of the of film i totally love that actor now. The plot of this film is quite interesting because this is the first time that i have seem story line of this sort, so quite interesting, some parts of this film was quite gruesome for younger people but towards the end of the film you will sort of get used to the ''gruesome part'' lol.The battle between the Satoshi (Hyyakimaru) and the demons weren't too bloody and it was kind of really fun too watch. Kou Shibasaki(Dororo) was a really interesting character and you can also see some great chemistry between her and Satoshi. Fun to watch and can't wait for the sequel. i actually brought the cheap version of this movie first but the cheap version don't includes anything so i hadn't had enough of it so i am then brought this limited edition with any special feature. |

I love both Tsumabuki Satoshi and Shibasaki Kou from previous dramas and movies I've seen them in and it was great to see them working together once again. At first I thought this movie would be too weird but it quickly became very cool and interesting! The monsters looked weird but it was awesome to see them fighting them as well as seeing the story behind it unfold. I think it was a pretty good watch and its one that I can watch over which is great! |

I wonder by the movie is entitled Dororo when Dororo was played by the girl in this film and the story of the movie revolves around the male lead where played a man who lost his limbs because of his father's pledge to the dark side. |

First of all, I would like to say when I fist purchase this special edition without reading carefully about what this movie all about since I love any movie with samurai. When I get to watch the movie. I dont even understand japanese. It is quickly understood what the movie all about as the movie progress. All the fighting can tell by hong kong action choreographer and special effect are superb. Well improved since japanese Samurai movies since shinobi. I would say this the next best dvd collection to put on your coffee table. |

An absolute awesome movie since Shinobi. Lots of cool special effects & c.g.i., many sword fightings scenes, great music, wonderful cinematography. If and only if they have the same female character of Shinobi movie to replace the same role actress of this Dororo, then this would be a perfect movie to spend time and money for. Over all, DORORO is A MUST SEE !!! |
