A rising hip-hop power
In recent years, many underground rappers have come to light thanks to rap competition shows like Show Me the Money and Unpretty Rapstar. However, Live, also known as DPR Live after his agency Dream Perfect Regime (DPR), takes a different route to start his career. Though he didn't participate in any competitions to raise his popularity, he captures mainstream attention because of his futuristic artistry. Collaborating with A-list R&B and hip-hop musicians like Jay Park, Dean, Crush and Loco, the promising rapper kills it with his debut Coming to You Live.

Centering on the themes of drinking, love and sex, this album features a number of sensual tracks with a swirling psychedelic charm. Basking in an alluring mood of romance, the lead-off track Cheese & Wine captures the ethereal sweetness of love through the head-nodding offbeat rhythm work and dreamy synth tunes. The ever-changing rhythms further extend the fantasy appeal of the song. Live and Crush bring a futuristic neo-soul sound to the title number Laputa (Track 2), which compares a loved one to the imaginary Laputa, the flying island in Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels. The rapper's mysterious baritone vocal harmonization and the bluesy synth melody add an extra touch of dreaminess to the song.

Live skillfully mingles different rapping styles in Right Here Right Now (Track 3) featuring Jay Park and Loco. The three rappers exude their own charms to impress their object of affection. Live's slightly hoarse vocals perfectly express a man's wild passion, while Loco gives off a whimsical charm with his playful take on the song. The random synth riffs, scattered handclaps, skittering snare drumbeats and solid bass drum sounds set an anxious and tense tone to depict the fierce competition among the three protagonists. The mood becomes serious when Jay Park shows sincere affection with his melodic rap.

Backed by quiet synth sounds, Know Me (Track 4) appears to be the most tranquil song of the album. However, it is also the fieriest track because of Live's rapping power and highly evocative lyrics. As the piano chords turn increasingly emotive and aggressive, the hip-hop artist proclaims his determination to become one of the top rappers in the world and refuses to be stereotyped by his skin color. Dean delivers a short yet impressive cadenza that elevates the song's classy taste to an even higher level.

Live masterfully controls the songs' intense sentiments with his hazy music's swing and rhythm. He even visualizes his atmospheric vibe in cinematographically beautiful music videos, which feature twisted and dizzy scenes in saturated color tone and backlight. While sharing the spotlight with other amazing collaborators, Live manages to stand out as the album's lead rapper and groove master. Mixing R&B, hip-hop, EDM and trap styles, Coming to You Live is an irresistibly enchanting and tasteful masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of Korean hip-hop music.
