"K" stands for chaotic
|
"Dr. K" is an uneven early film from director Kwak Kyung Taek that is watchable primarily due to nice performances by actresses Kim Hye Su and Kim Ha Neul. Dr. K is a fourth year resident surgeon, able to perform miracle cures for patients suffering from brain cancer and brain trauma. It turns out that Dr. K is employing mysterious shamanistic techniques to obtain these results, but those techniques may just cost him his life!!! The film has a host of subplots and minor characters that don't add much to the movie and it veers in tone rather jarringly from horror to comedy to medical drama to romance to supernatural mystery. Pick your genre; you are likely to find it (at least for a few minutes) in this film's rather chaotic story. Fortunately, Kim Hye Su gets more screen time than anyone else in the movie, playing an anesthetist who harbors a secret love for Dr. K and is determined to uncover the secret of his miracle cures. I particularly enjoyed her performance because it allows her to play a brainy woman who is not trading on her good looks. Kim Ha Neul, in only her second film role, does a nice job as a vulnerable young brain cancer patient who can't contain her love for Doc K. Fans of the Miss Kims may enjoy this movie. For others, I recommend director Kwak's much more polished subsequent film "Mutt Boy", which also is available from YesAsia. |

A great movie, I rank it right up with DITTO (my favorite). Outstanding acting and subject matter. A moving movie for the whole family. See it, today........ |
