Lee Leng Kok is a restoration & remastering genius to make these old recordings on 78s sound so good. There's absolutely no scratch sounds or distortion and some of the songs are indeed rare. I look forward to the next release after enjoying this CD which incidentally makes a great gift. More please maestro....... |

I was very pleased with this CD - the concept is simple but clever. Put together 11 Western tunes popular in the 1950s performed by the original singers and complement them with the Chinese cover versions so e.g. on this CD you will find Alan Dale's SWEET AND GENTLE and the Chinese version CHA CHA DANCE sung by Shanghai songbird Yee Min. Other songs include ROSE ROSE I LOVE YOU, LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDOURED THING, THE LITTLE SHOEMAKER, MAN/WOMAN, IN THE CHAPEL IN THE MOONLIGHT, BEGIN THE BEGUINE, SEVEN LONELY DAYS, I'M WALKING BEHIND YOU, ETERNALLY and HUMMINGBIRD. The booklet contains comprehensive notes in Chinese and English with the inclusion of many photos and the remastering is top quality. A big bonus for me was hearing for the first time Grace Chang's debut recording of BEGIN THE BEGUINE in Chinese. If you like pop songs from the 1950s I recommend this product from the new label FIDELITY SOUND; they deserve our support. |
