Ebonyhill Vol. 1 - We Are Ebonyhill

Like many before them, Korea's up-and-coming soul/R&B indie band Ebonyhill faced many difficulties after forming the group due to constant member changes. But after 2 years of struggles, the band has solidified its base and is now more ready than ever to start their legacy. Presenting their debut release We Are Ebonyhill, the band, currently consisting of leader Jang Won Ki (vocalist), Kim Hye Bin (female vocalist), Lee Yoon (bassist), and Hwang Jung Sik (drummer), kicks off their music with Everybody, followed by leader Jang's solo cut Ahmumal haji ahn eul gae ("Won't Say A Word" - Track 2) and the album's principle track Soulmate (Track 3), a sweet duet song beautifully rendered by Jang and band member Kim Hye Bin.

밴드 에보니힐의 첫 앨범이 발매된다. 흑인음악을 좋아하는 멤버들이 모인 에보니힐은 2006년도에 결성되어 다른 밴드와 마찬가지로 잦은 멤버교체와 여러가지 문제에 시달린다. 그러다 에보니힐을 굳건히 지키던 리더 김지훈과 보컬 장원기는 허스키한 매력과 그루비한 감각이 돋보이는 여성보컬 김혜빈과 펑키한 소울 터치가 뛰어난 베이스 이윤, 드럼 황정식을 영입하며 본격적인 에보니힐의 일기가 시작된다. 인디라는 제작의 형태가 무색할 정도로 많은 밴드들이 크고 작은 기획사에 소속되어 상업적 요구에 맞추어 음악을 생산하고 있는 요즘 그들은 자신만의 음악으로 에보니힐이란 이름의 앨범을 제작하기로 작정하며 그들 만의 일기장을 써내려가기 시작한다. 2007년 자라섬재즈 페스티벌을 시작으로 공연 수익금과 세션 활동비 등을 통해 앨범 제작이 이루어 졌다. 다같이 자유롭게 즐겨보자는 첫곡 Everybody로 시작하는 에보니힐의 앨범은 리드미컬한 소울팝적인 보이스의 주인공 장원기의 솔로곡 ‘아무말 하지 않을게’와 김혜빈과의 듀엣곡이자 타이틀곡인 ‘Soulmate’ 그리고 마지막 밴드테마송 ‘We are Ebonyhill’ 까지 신나기도 하고 슬프기도한 밴드의 진실된 일기가 담겨져 있다.

멤버들 스스로 Ebony Hell(지옥)이라고 불리울 만큼 힘들게 완성된 에보니힐 1집.
이제 그들을 기다려온 팬들과 흑인음악 매니아들이 두근거리는 마음으로 소울풀한 검은 언덕의 일기장을 열어보는 일만 남았다.
