October 1, 2009 Almost Perfect Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Tokyo Sonata has everything I like in a movie but is almost completely ruined by the inclusion of a certain story element (the director added this part which was not in the script, according to the liner notes. But still, I enjoy the feel of this movie so much that I watched it 4 or 5 times within a week, so it's definitely worth watching.

But is the overpriced Blu-Ray worth it? Maybe not. This transfer is good but not on par with other quality Blu-Rays. I haven't seen a DVD release for this movie but with many properly mastered DVDs looking fantastic these days, I'm awfully critical of Blue-Ray transfers that aren't pristine. Now, this could be from the source film, but in general the resolution is not very sharp and actors in long shots seem blurred or fuzzy. The night shots on the beach are grainy like something you would see from an inexpensive digital camera. Anyway, the Blu-Ray is probably better than the DVD, but I don't know if paying double the price is worth it, unless you are like me and need maximum quality. So I'm a little disappointed with the transfer and the horrible inclusion of a particular plot point, but I really do like the movie.

*the packaging and booklet are quite nice, by the way

    October 1, 2009 I shouldn't like this but..... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
These songs are great! For Muzik features short, overproduced pop songs that are not entirely original, immature, sung in a language I cannot understand, and yet I've listened to this "mini" album everyday since its release. Personal favorite: the 1 min 25 sec long intro "For Muzik". Why? I don't know, but it now has the highest play count in my iTunes library.

March 27, 2008 5 stars all the way Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
My opinion here isn't worth much since I firmly believe that anything hikaru creates is exceptional. I would have given Hear Station 5 stars without even listening to it. But I thought I should give a review anyway. If you haven't heard any of her singles over the last 2 years then this album is a real treat, but otherwise about half of the songs are completely new, and of course they are very well done. The sound is similar to Ultra Blue but maybe not quite as upbeat. If you've heard Stay Gold I think that's a good sample of the album's sound as a whole. Anyway, 5 stars, maybe the best full length?? We'll see...

  • May 9, 2007 Hilarious!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
One of the funniest Japanese movies I've seen, Mamiya Brothers is fun to watch beginning to end. These guys are otaku, but not in the way Americans are now using that term (they don't even own a PC). "Nerds" would be a better term for the brothers from an American perspective, and watching them interact with each other, girls, and the relationship with their mother is outrageously funny. Excellent production on the R2 disc as usual with a disc of extras (if you care).

January 11, 2007 Must Have! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Don't look at the price - just buy it. This is the best concert DVD you can buy featuring fantastic fisuals, sound, and of course an excellent two hour long performance by Hikaru. Packaging is a bit boring but who cares! The DVD is what matters.

January 6, 2007 REVIEW for the DISC not show Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Good mini series but look elsewhere if you want/need english subtitles. Also on this release there is a buzz from the right channel throught each episode when the volume peaks. Pretty lousy quality.
