A true Cathay classic Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
"Education of Love" is a rare treat -- a film that edifies while it entertains. Lin Xuexian (Wang Yin) is a beloved teacher, who has been toiling at the job he loves for 34 years. When he develops a bad cough, he decides he must stay home from work. His pretty but inexperienced daughter Jingyi (Lin Cui) offers to fill in for him at the school. The headmaster accepts her as a temporary teacher, but Jingyi soon experiences that overseeing an unruly bunch of schoolboys is a bit like herding cats, a very frustrating experience. With her father slow to recover from his illness, Jingyi continues to teach his class and begins to understand and appreciate the life that her father has lived and the challenges her students confront. As the movie unfolds, we see both teacher and students grow and learn.

Particularly touching is a subplot involving a skinny little student named He Shouquan (played by Sammo Hung at age 9 in his movie debut!). Teased by his classmates for his shaved head, little Shouquan is a brilliant student, but comes from a hellish home environment. His blacksmith father (Zhu Mu) resents the little boy because the boy's mother died during childbirth. Now the father drowns his sorrow in alcohol, mistreats the lad, and resents his success in school. Jingyi's attempts to intervene in this broken family on the behalf of her troubled student are rich with drama.

While "Education of Love" can be sentimental and at times a bit melodramatic, its storytelling is honest and forthright and the performances by Lin Cui, Wang Yin, Wang Lai (as Jingyi's estranged mother), Lei Zhen (as Jingyi's ever-patient fiance), and Zhu Mu are pitch-perfect. This is family-friendly viewing that will continue to touch and enrich its audience for many years to come. And who wouldn't love to have Lin Cui as their teacher?

6-stars I am giving this movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I bought this DVD for my daughter to bring to school as a gift for her teacher on TEACHER'S DAY. I think all teachers should watch this movie; I'm sure the reason why they chose teaching as a profession will become clearer. Also, Wang Yin (Lin Cui's father) is such a great actor and seems to fit in almost any role he is given. I have watched this movie numerous times and every time, I cry like mad!

Jeanette Lin Cui Shines in tribute to teachers Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
EDUCATION OF LOVE was that rare film that Cathay Studio
"dare" to made with probably no expectations of great box office receipts other than to seriously showcasing
popular star Jeanette Lin Cui's acting range. Well loved and adored by her fans for her always peppy and
lively portrayals of ingenues, Jeanette really "stretches" her acting chops in this earnest
effort to give tribute to all teachers in all civilized societies where their noble efforts usually
goes unrewarded. One can see many similar incidents in real life and if you have been poor or have been taught
by an impoverished teacher, this film will evoke many bittersweet memories, traces of Ozu, Truffaut, McCarey,
surfaces now and then in this well made film. Cheers
for Jeanette Lin Cui for giving a great performance and triple cheers for Cathay for making this film.
