Electronic Girl marks the stunning directorial debut of computer graphics artist Matsuda Keita. Shot mostly on green screen, Matsuda - who produced, wrote, edited, directed, and did the special effects for the film - makes use of traditional computer graphics, animation, and live action to create a unique piece of sci-fi cinema that will standard for special effects-packed Japanese films to come. Over a year and a half in the making, the 80-minute film features over 450 shots with computer graphics, all done on the budget of an independent film.
Gravure idol Koizumi Maya stars as Nana, an android idol living in the year 2055. The rich and the privileged are living in the comforts of a manmade dome, while the poor struggle outside in the decaying world. One day, Nana achieves self-awareness by accident and escapes from the lab in which she was created. There, she meets tough young man Koki (Ayano Go).
