Independent film director Nakata Hideto and three model artists spent eight years to bring writer Inoue Hideki's story Denshinbashira Denshi no Koi to life. With each frame done by hand, Elemi is a refreshing alternative in the days of computer-generated 3D animation, thanks to its old-school look. Taking place before the days of cell phones, the 45-minute short film tells the fantastical story of Elemi, a talking light pole that falls in love with an electrician who repairs her one day. Thanks to the help of a telephone pole in the neighborhood, Elemi manages to call and speak to the electrician like a normal human being. However, her little act of love is a violation of her world's laws, and a scandal soon begins to spread throughout the neighborhood.

Despite its simple look, the heartwarming short film charmed audiences in Japan, winning multiple awards, including the Audience Choice Award at the 2009 Skip City International D-cinema Film Festival. The English-subtitled DVD comes with making of, character introductions, and model gallery.
