Inspired by a famous serial murder case that occurred in the city of Hwaseong in 1991, tvN's tenth anniversary drama Signal connects two detectives from different periods via a mysterious walkie-talkie. Starring Lee Je Hoon (Secret Door), Kim Hye Su (Queen of the Office) and Jo Jin Woong (Beyond the Clouds), Signal is one of the highest rated Korean dramas in the history of cable. Directed by Kim Won Seok (Misaeng) and written by Kim Eun Hee (Three Days), the fantasy crime tale garnered Best Drama, Best Screenplay and Best Actress for Kim Hye Su at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards.

When he was in elementary school, Hae Young (Lee Je Hoon) saw his classmate Yoon Jung being taken away by a strange woman. After learning that Yoon Jung was kidnapped and killed, Hae Young told the police what he had witnessed on the day of her disappearance. However, the police turned a deaf ear to him and the case has remained unsolved. Years later, Hae Young has become a criminal profiler and he comes across a walkie-talkie that allows him to communicate with a detective (Jo Jin Woong) in the 1980s who is investigating the same unsolved murder case as him. Exchanging clues via the walkie-talkie, they work together to solve different long-standing cases and even prevent them from happening.
