She started first at sony and was main rival of Ayumi Hamasaki. in 2000 sony blacklisted Ami because legal problems. She released 2 indie singles in 2004. On January 1st, 2005, Max Matsuura discovered her and she signed for Avex Trax.
Now into the review. Cover has too much pink, but it's still nice cover. Album's booklet is quite dull. It only includes 2 shots of Ami with different camera positions. Maybe I should've ordered the photobook version... The music is great electro/pop. Album starts off with amazing FREE FREE produced by Nakata Yasukata. It's really heavy electro-pop. Ami's vocals have been synthesized heavily, but it makes song even better. This is one of the best songs in the album (and in her career) the higlights of the album are cover of RAM RIDER's MUSIC, FREE FREE, Aly & Aj cover of Potential Break Up Song and THE weekeND. Songs are very good or good (excluded feel the beat which was bad)
Overall album is MUCH better than her dissapointing CONNETTA but a little weaker than AROUND THE WORLD. Dolce has much electro/pop(FREE FREE, SUPER MUSIC MAKER, MUSIC) but includes also basic pop songs (2人はPOP , 新しい日々 , アイノウタ) btw, Dolce means delicious in Italian and Dolce deserves it's title, because it is really a delicious album with electro flavor. The album again, it's not a dissapointment. The album songs are better than the singles! Gokidanzen! ~nothing but something~ was a real bad album-promotion track. It's okay, but Nami is trying too hard to sound like a man. Other album tracks are so much better! Visualize is a mixture of Heroine adn Believe (and best track of the album) Eden is latin track with a little synth-sound. CROSS SEASON remix is a a much faster song than the original, but too long and repetive. Album ends to MY WAY reproduction, which is great version from the original song.
DVD includes single PVs, Interview and her trip to USA 2004. PV are good. Interview would be interesting, if I could understand Japanese (still learning) and I thought that USA trip would be from year 2008, NOT 2004. But still, it's good. It includes lot of talking and behind scenes from Anime events were she performed and Daitan ni Ikimasshou filming. They even show the whole Daitan ni Ikimasshou PV there. Nice DVD.
This album includes all the basics from Nami Tamaki. A must buy, and I recomend this version over the normal CD only version. My favourite tracks are Visualize, Brightdown and Eden. Please support Nami and buy her other albums too :)Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

August 30, 2007 PLAY with NamieHonestly, I think this si good album, but it's not excelent. When I first listened it, I only loved Hide & Seek, Top Secret and Baby Don't Cry. Other were good, but they left me REALLY empty feeling..I think some songs don't really have emotion IMO. But I gave it still couple listens more...now I think this is really good album. Hello and Pink Key are nowdays also my favourites in PLAY. August 30, 2007 Best single of 2007Hikki really suprised me with this. Flavor of Life was okay for me, but Beautiful World blowed my mind. t's really beautiful & upbeat yet sad song. It's too NGE newest movies theme song (I love NGE)! It fits perfectly for new NGE movie ^^ others in the single were also quite good. Kiss & Cry took time to grow, but now I really like it! January 3, 2007 BLUE BIRD is okayBLUE BIRD is okay single. Title-track is summery, catchy track and fairyland-copy, but it's still good! It's little like positive-ver. of Fairyland and the video is better (I think..) Beautiful Fighters is great! It's positive, happy-go-luck! Song that has ''never gonna give up''-mode on it. It's cheesy bit but still it's great and the PV is cute. Ladies Night ~another night~ is AWESOME remix! It's rocky ver. of ladies night from (m)u probably best track of the single. BLUE BIRD remix is also great but it's not that great as another night was, it's trance remix as always but I like trance and it's good. BLUE BIRD is okay single. Ningyo isn't anymore that great than the title song. It's slower & boring more, but Namie's vocals are good and the PV is pretty (even there don't happen much) remix is also good! I must say if you don't like J-Lo or Poppy & R&B tracks don't buy this.CSCEIS is hot, ningyo not (but it's still good) and remix is also good. January 3, 2007 Great Namie album!This was really good album too, but It takes little time to get used to it. It more experimental (and better) than SWEET 19 BLUES, which wasn't really great...but this is MUCH better. This album has more electro-pop and vocals are little bit mature and thank god this hasn't been put remixes. Only thing that bothers is probably that some songs are booring! I love tracks 1,3,4,5,6,9,10,12 others are OK and probably boring someway. It's little bit sad that she don't anymore make this kind of music. I miss it... (but her hip-pop is good too!) January 2, 2007 Really good albumUltra Blue is one of the best albums of 2006. I like every song (expect track 9 which was weird) from the album. My favourites are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11,13. DVD is also really good. It was really good move to make PV of every song. Only thing that I don't like for this album is probably that it is maybe little bit cheesy and it won't be recomend for everyone, but if you like dance-music and ballads I recomend this one for you.
