Professional Review of "ente'tein"

November 26, 2007

Flattering: ente'tein ~ Gigi Leung

In August, there was I Like Gigi (New + Best Selection). Here comes in December another brand new release by Gigi, the annual Cantonese album ente'tein with ten newbies. And the chamber music version of ente'tein ends it on a high note.

Nine noted male singers of so different styles from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China composed and wrote for Gigi's latest spectacular album. Songs in the album are poppy and catchy and stand out from the other ones in the recent period. Music composed is also of great quality and in general, ente'tein is worthy of sparing your time listening to.

The co-operations between Gigi and other singers are pleasant and allow the superstar to explore various types of songs though they have not yet truly sparked. However, when compared to other Cantonese albums in 2004, hats off to the group of artists involved, ente'tein is way more appealing.

ente'tein (Track#1), the leading track, is rhythmic and pleasing. The lyrics, written by Andy Lau, are good and able to describe the true feelings of artists. However, the present reviewer thinks the line "Wei Lai De Jiu Shi Zai Er Jia" ("The future is now") is a bit weird and could definitely be better. The present reviewer was actually mistaken that "Er Jia" refers to the Swedish furniture supermarket.

The second principal track "The Northern Lights" (Track#2) was composed by Edmond Leung. Though the style of the song is not uncommon, it is good and the use of The Northern Lights as an analog is impressive. Mixed-up (Track#3), written by David Tao, is light-hearted and beautiful and Gigi's pleasing and jolly performance is satisfactory.

The Day Before Tomorrow (Track#5) is an award-winning piece from a Cash Songwriting Competition held earlier this year. The present reviewer listened to its demo and could tell the great differences. As a piece created by a rookie, it's alright but, in general, just so-so. The chorus is absolutely not ear-catching enough.

The present reviewer would also recommend To The Happiest Man (Track#9) and Abundant Fragrance (Track#10). As for the others, Queen In Trouble (Track#4), Always Try Everything (Track#6) and Cause And Effect (Track#8) are also worth listening to. Unfortunately, Kiss My Cheek (Track#7), whose lyrics were written by Sam Hui, is ordinary. It's not bad but of nothing special.

Recommendations:ente'tein (Track#1), The Northern Lights (Track#2), Mixed-up (Track#3) and Abundant Fragrance (Track#10)

The BEST Gigi CD ever! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I have loved Gigi for quite some time, but this CD is the absolute best! I love how it has so much more "style" and up-tempo songs that her last CD "A Sense of Belongings". On this CD, Gigi steps out of her traditional ballad-only routine and tackles new rythmns and sounds with resounding success! This CD is a whole new side of Gigi and I adore it. She never ceases to amaze. Even her voice sounds more refined on this CD than on any previous attempts. Keep it up Gigi...you get better with every CD and this one is going to be hard to beat. It's perfect. You must own it...BUY IT NOW! Gigi at her absolute finest and most creative.

Excellent... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Do not expect hiphop, rap or hard rock stuff on this one!! But what you can get is Gigi’s first time collaboration with many a great composers and lyricists from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China delivering a mellifluous album of the year. This album consists of mainly contemporary ballads with her ever charming angelic voice.
Title track, “entertain? is an outstanding piece of music by Gigi herself and Andy Lau’s thought-provoking lyrics narrating the life of a celebrity. Track 11, the cover version of track 1 is well-arranged with her classics, namely “a story of a tall girl? “fireworks?and “abandon? Track 2 is commercial-like and it pictures a very beautiful scene of the Northern Lights. She rendered it with just the right touch of vocal performance. Track 3 takes you on a holiday. David Tao pen down this marvellous lively song that you cannot miss! Next track gets some slow rock touch and Gigi’s crooning to produce those bluesy feeling. Track 5, a heart-rending, melancholic tune that will steal your heart, from the start. Once again, she is showing off her skill in composing songs. Wanting for more? Moving on to track 6 is a jaunty and catchy number that will uplifts and brightens your evening mood. Hins Cheung, the talented lad from China lends a hand on this album by writing Track 8. It has a simple music arrangement ?guitar background music and it is worth listening to this moving tune. Track 9 and track 10 are melodious and relaxing. While the former gets a serenade, musical tune from CL(the composer), while the latter ends this album with its harmonious melody. The only track that is disappointing is Track 7, “kiss my face? It sounds common, rather bland and uninspiring. But all in all, Gigi had put her best foot in and kudos should be given to all the people who contributed their effort in this album. Last but not least, a word to describe this album –ENTE’TAINING?..

Ente'tein Truly Entertains Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Dear canto pop music lovers out there, this album is definitely worthwhile to be in your own collections. This CD kicks off with the principle song "ente'tein", which rhythm spices one up immediately and lyrics telling a brief story of gigi's celebrity lifestyle. Excellent effort from the 2004 Golden Horse Award Leading Male Actor I must say. I'll continue this review when i've finish listening to all the other songs carefully. Anyway, its an excellent piece of work from the creators of this album.

GiGi~ Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Gigi Leung is one of the best female singers in HK. Started since 9 yrs ago in the music industry, she has progressed dramatically until this day.. What makes her special is her very soothing "soft" & high-pitch voice, very good for slow songs. Being a fan for 3 yrs now, i just hope she would achieve best female singer award for this year in HK.. Best of luck Gigi~
