Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies), Hollywood period piece The Children of Huang Shi brings the unlikely life of unsung British hero George Hogg to the big screen. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match Point) stars as the young and upright Brit caught in the crossfire of the Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War in 1930s China. Co-starring Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) and Hong Kong movie stars Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh, this big-budget film aces the small moments with its stirring tale of real-life war heroics against beautiful sweeping photography of mountains and countryside.

Also known as Escape from Huang Shi, The Children of Huangshi opens in 1937 when the Japanese army invades the city of Nanjing and proceeds to carry out a brutal massacre of soldiers and civilians alike (the Rape of Nanking). There to report the situation, British journalist George Hogg (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) finds his own life on the block when he is captured by the Japanese military. Chinese revolutionary group leader Chen Han Sheng (Chow Yun Fat) rescues Hogg and sends him to the city of Huangshi where he ends up at an orphanage run by Australian nurse Lee Pearson (Radha Mitchell). Hogg gradually warms up to Pearson and her charges, but with the war pressing closer and closer, the orphanage is no longer safe. Forced to flee the region, Hogg and Pearson lead 60 children on an epic 700-mile journey northward, battling mountainous terrain and run-ins with the Japanese military.

2008년, 단 하나의 감동실화!작은 기적의 영웅, ‘조지 호그’를 만난다1937년 중국, 일본군이 점령한 무자비한 학살 현장을 취재하던 영국인 종군기자 ‘조지 호그’(조나단 리스 마이어스)는 일본군에 붙잡혀 사형당할 위기에 처한다.

다행히 호그는 게릴라 부대의 리더 ‘잭’(주윤발)의 도움으로 목숨을 구하지만 심각한 부상으로 본국으로 돌아가지 못하고 당분간 ‘황시’에 머물게 된다. 전쟁으로 더 이상 잃을 것 없는 60명 아이들의 유일한 안식처 ‘황시’. ‘황시’의 아이들은 말도 통하지 않고, 피부색도 틀린 푸른 눈의 낯선 남자 ‘조지 호그’를 경계의 시선으로 바라본다.
