"A Beautiful Mess" Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Music is always different in everyone's ears. But never has music been this different. I couldn't have said it in better words than what Utada described this album as. Like an aftermath of what an evil scientist tried to create. But for some reason, this album puts you in a nice perspective as the detective that tries to figure out what happened in this lab mess. Overall, this is a very dark album that makes you look deep inside the music in this album. Tracks like "Devil Inside", "Exodus '04", "Kremlin Dusk" and "You Make Me Want To Be A Man" truly stands out on that. This album isn't very mainstream. Exodus '04 is probably the only track that is closest to having a mainstream pop sound (after all, it was Timbaland who produced this song). This is not to say that Utada can't create music. The music here just isn't appealing to the mainstream crowd. But if you give a forgiving chance, you can actually enjoy the music in this album.

Buy it for Exodus Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
I like this CD, yet I must admit I have a huge problem with Utada`s voice. It seems, at times to have no musicality in it whatsoever. It`s extremely flat and unexpressive. If she`d been speaking the lyrics it would probably have made more sense. The only exception is the title track which is dark, somber and magnificent, with a beat all its own, which is not dependent on a singer`s style. I love that song and has bought the maxi single because I know I`ll always enjoy that track! The rest of the songs, well, they`re okay, but not outstanding. The lyrics are quite imaginative at times, but sometimes they get simple and silly. The intentions behind this album appear to have been the best. Too bad it didn`t work out. Maybe she was trying a little bit too hard?

I don't understand the hate ... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Probably because the lyrics sometimes are awful (Easy Breezy) or dirty (The Workout) but I don't understand what's wrong with this album for most of you and it's not monotonous either. There is the pop of ''Easy Breezy'', the pop/rock of ''Devil Inside'', the ethnic sound of ''Exodus '04'', the techno/dance of ''You Make Me Want To Be A Man'', the R&B of ''Let Me Give You My Love'' and ''Kremlin Dusk'' is probably the most beautiful song composed by Utada in her entire career. It's a well done album, probably the ones who hate this album are the same who loves the boring ''Flavor Of Life Ballad Version-''. There isn't bad music at all included in Hikki first English album.

Interesting... Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
This album was interesting. I am a die hard Utada fan and I will admit that this isn't one of her GREATEST works, but there are some pretty catchy songs on this album (like Hotel Lobby, Animato, The Workout, and You Make Me Want to be a Man.)

All in all it's nice to hear something in English that's original.

I think the problem with this album is that it was TOO original for american listeners. (which is why it sold more internationally than where the language is dominant).

America loves rough (and somewhat dirty) lyrics, but Utada didn't do that. Her lyrics are pure... and it takes a fine ear to appreciate them.

Have fun with this album and be open minded.

LOL Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
This album is by-far Hikki's worst, since no one wants to speak up and say so. It flopped in the USA and even some of her most baist fans will admit that it reeked.

There's only 3 good tracks in my oppinion: "Devil Inside", "Exodus", and "You Make Me Wanna Be A Man"!

The ever-hilarious track, "Easy Breezy", is known to be one of the best tracks...but it's ruined by the lyrics "You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japanesey"...hahahahaha! It's an extremely shallow piece of work you'd never imagine Utada Hikaru singing.

I bought it to support Hikki's coming to the USA...but I NEVER listen to it unless it's the 3 songs I named above.

If anything, she should've released "Ultra Blue" (singing all the tracks in English) as her debut American release. This was just horrible!!! Most the tracks are the typical sound you'd hear from any American artist. Hikki should've showcased how different from them she is and not how much like them she could be.

This is art. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Say what you say. This is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Kremlin Dusk/ doesn't follow any kind of typical song format. features real drums. and gets bombastically explosive at the end. references edgar allen poe. and seems to be a song about her fears of crossing over.

Exodus 04/ also a song about her trying to crossover excellent production by Timbaland

let me give you my love/ also produced by timbaland is a good snythized dance song

tippy toe/ about her having an affair with a married man, interesting
easy breezy/ a fun r&b pop song. i love the "i'm japansey" line

hotel lobby/ another song that just kind of grows and builds energy as it goes.

overall this album is very ecletic and sounds very electronical. i like it.

Utada's English album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Exodus was the first album I had ever got of Utada. I got it early in 2005 and since then I have been listening to her Japanese works and I like them better, but Exodus is still ok. I first heard about Utada Hikaru when I was in school and we were looking at a new's paper and I happened to see a picture of her and went on the internet and saw she was a Japanese singer. About 4-6 months later I started looking for the album and found it after going to over 5 music stores. When I got it the first song I listened to was Devil Inside and I didn't like it because I really wanted to hear Japanese music and the album was in English and it sounded strange so I put it up and didn't touch it again till a week later I went on the internet and found out some more information about her and I found out she was born in New York and could speak english (which I thought the album was sung by some American singer that redone Utada's song's in english). Then I looked up things about Japanese music and saw Japanese music has different sounds to it. After I got off the internet I went to my room and listened to the whole album and since the I have been a hardcore Hikki fan ever since. But still I wonder what inspired Hikki to make her englsih album so different from her Japanese albums. Besides that I love this album, especially the song Easy Breezy and You Make Me Want To Be A Man. Almost every day at school I sing the sentence 'You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japanessy' and everybody loves it.

......my opinion Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
some people want to say it is a piece of crap. I do not agree with that. I think the actual music is beautiful. The problem with the album is the lyrics of the songs. At times they are inane and hackneyed. The line your easy breezy and im japanesey is a bit puerile......perhaps embarassing. But the song of the song is pretty and the beat is good. I think Utada had the right intentions, it is just that her lyrics struggle to have meaning. The sexually suggestive lyrics are also somewhat forced and awkward, and they take away from the music.....Utada, better luck next time.

Reality Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Okay. Before you review this, erase EVERYTHING you once knew about Utada "Hikaru". Pretend you are listening to "Utada" for the very first time. Now think: Is this album better than American mainstream?

In my opinion, the album is quite cute, with bobby-ish sounds like in 'Easy Breesy' and 'Hotel Lobby'. They just wanna make you dance or something. xD; Although some may not be up to my standards (Let Me Give You My Love) Most of the album is awesome.

My favorite tracks must be 'Kremlin Dusk' and 'About Me'. Instead of Devil Inside, she should have added them in a single. (Together maybe?) I'd love an intrumental track for the both of them. ^___^

I love this CD! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
At first I didn't like the CD but that was just listening to the first few seconds of each song. But then I went through and listened to all the songs straight through and I fell in love with this CD. My favorite of all the songs is About Me, the words, the beat, everything about this song is awsome.
