Mr. Boogie ♣
|
The mini album was definitely great :) NU ABO sounded kind of weird and totally un-melodic the first time I listen to it, but just as other hits from SM, they just eventually get you :). The choreography was unique and though the lyrics make no sense to me, NU ABO was still a highly-recommended song ^^ Mr. Boogie was definitely my favourite track from the EP. The song has addictive melody and the performing concept of the girls was sassy and very mysterious, really attractive! Ice Cream and ME+U has the same childish and brightful melodies. But I'd say they weren't outstanding. Was fine, but nothing unique. Surprise Party was sweet and cute, and Krystal's "Happy birthday" at the end was adorable, but the song wasn't really outstanding either. I didn't like Sorry a lot. Somehow Lunstal's ballad duets never got into me. But however, the EP was nice, and SM shippers should totally check it out :) I wonder how the poster looked like. I bought it too late and the posters are now sold-out in Korea :(. I hope they picked a better picture for the special photocard. I never like backstage pics :(. And it's quite surprising how SM only release one kind of special photocard, I was kinda hoped I'd get Victoria or Krystal photocard, but I guess group photocard is also not a bad option :). And yes, totally loved the booklet. I love the "mysteric", gothic concept of the booklet. Sulli's front pic was epic! The color arrangement was outstanding. The sight of the uncultivated playground with rusty old slides and broken mirror windows was attractive. The way the girls' names were spelled in unkempt scribbles looked nice. The girls' emotionless expressions and the light-setting really pushed the concept to extreme. In my opinion, the booklet was definitely praise-worthy and a must-see :) I don't get why so many people are complaining about the CD packaging. It was, in my opinion, eco green! Except the CD and the special photocard, the album only contained recyclable hard-paper XD. And I think the packaging design is really unique, before SM, never seen any. Overall, great EP. Highly recommended for SM shippers :) |

f(x) has a couple of pretty good singles: Chocolate love, Lachata, Chu. Then came my favorite song of the year "Nu Abo" (Electro Hip-Hop), this will be among my all time favorites k-pop song. All 8 points are given to this one song. The rest of the cd...soso. |

I have bought this long time ago but I just feel like reviewing now. The booklet is very good. Contained many pages of the girls although there are some wasted pages but overall the booklet is very nice. Although the booklet is nice but SM should really improve on the whole CD packaging. Like all of SM's CDs doesn't have a nice packaging including this one. The CD was attached on the last page of the booklet and it could easily fall off anytime anywhere. The photocard included is also very nice. It contained a very cute picture of all the members and with their signatures on the back of it. For the songs included in here I would say that the only songs that have the f(x) style is NU ABO and Mr. Boogie. Both of the songs are addictive especially NU ABO. Everytime I hear it my body can't stop to dance the choreography. For Ice Cream I will say that it sounded like a children songs. But to think of it maybe it suits them because they're still young. Me+U is too cutesy. It's way too different than what f(x) really are. Surprise Party is a very nice song but it is too SNSD. When I hear it I really think of SNSD. Last song Sorry (Dear Daddy) is a nice song too. But for all of Luna Krystal duet songs I still prefer Spread its Wings more. Overall good mini album because of the cool booklet but not the songs. Really hope that for their next album please include more f(x) style songs. Owh I miss Amber. When will she comeback. It has been way too long already since she's missing. Hope nothing bad or controversional will happen. They're still new and still have a long way to go |

The album comes in a rectangle shape paperback booklet with pictures of each members and group photos. its really nice, I spent more time on that than on the CD. Speaking of which, the CD was very good, though it depends on the listener, the songs were catchy and even the ending ballad was good. A mixture of different genres. I gladly recommend this to anyone whose a fan. |

I love the album. I had it on itunes already, but I wanted the physical copy. The song NU ABO is really catchy with the nananas. Sorry is one of my favourite songs on the album because of it's slow pace and nice vocals. I LOVE the album overall. The one thing I didn't like about this, is the packaging. It's the same as most of the mini albums, like SHINee's 2009, Year of Us. It's paper packaging. And when it comes, it's wrapped in plastic. It's not very good protective packaging. Also, sometimes, you have to be careful opening it, because the binding will crack sometimes. |

Best k pop girl band????
Best k pop girl band????

F (x) are one of those bands that are at times absolutely fantastic or very annoying!!! Firstly I find the group dynamic highly refreshing for a k pop girl band with the mixture of mature members like Victoria, cute members like Sulli and even ultra cool tomboy rapper Amber. Secondly their vocals and dancing are top notch and I would go as far to say that they are one of the best girl groups out there in terms of performance, style and attitude. BUT …. I find the choice of songs that they are given highly frustrating! On their first mini album there was only one fantastic song which was ‘Chu’ as I loved the combo of cutesy pop, rap and even a few traditional Chinese sounding violins at the chorus. But the other tracks were bland and as one reviewer quite rightly said “mediocre”. The same is true of Nu Abo. The main plug ‘Nu Abo’ is utterly fantastic and when I saw the MV I was hooked. Its edgy, feisty and completely original. The same can be said of the second track on the album Mr Boogie and even the ballad I’m Sorry is the perfect showcase for the vocal talents of members Krystal and Luna. The other songs are forgettable at best and just don’t carry the same punch. F(x) are undoubtedly the most promising girl group on the K Pop scene, they easily out rank other similar groups like 2NE1 but what they are lacking is better material to work with. More stuff like Nu Abo and they will be unstoppable!!!! |

“Nu Abo” (new blood) mini album by f(x) is the usual variety of K-pop electronic ditties familiar to the K-pop girl band world. Electronic dance, soul disco R & B, rap, light pop funk and girl harmonics. “Nu Abo” is an odd opener though and I was mixed about this repetitive mid tempo stomper, but I like Amber’s rap vocal of ‘this is how we do it our love f(x)’ amidst f(x) girl’s cute ‘na, na, na, nu abo’ refrain. No doubt the top f(x) track here is “Mr Boogie”, a straight forward present and correct electronic dance song with a good hook/refrain that fits nicely with other recent K-pop girl pop hits (should have been the opening track here like “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” should have opened Hyori’s “H. Logic” album). Loved the gals singing, highly catchy. “Ice Cream” is by Hitchhiker with a nice sweet light melody, 80s refrain and rapping. “ME + U” is a quite fun trance disco type with repeated beat. “Surprise Party” is a more soul r& b love song and “Sorry (Dear Daddy)” a nice soul ballad duet with Luna and Krystal. For me though “Nu Abo” needed stronger songs. I loved “Mr Boogie” and “Nu Abo” and “Sorry” were okay. Other songs, although good, didn’t quite lift this album from mediocre. Maybe some electro blended rock guitar amongst the synth/hip-hop would give f (x) further punch. Booklet is excellent, a landscape paperback filled with lovely pictures of Krystal, Luna, Victoria, Amber and beautiful Sulli. Also a small inclusive credit card sized group print. Its Sulli on the cover with the inner pages showing all girls in a variety of fashion attire amidst song lyrics, graphic concepts, bitten apples, punky studio pics and some outdoor shots of ghostly bleak buildings and moody looking f(x) girls. Amber riding a scooter in one shot looks rather James Deanish. These fashion concepts have been good in K-pop (liked T-ara’s gangster girl look) and f(x) befit excellent cool fashions here. I like the blonde looking Sulli – nice (I think Sulli and Gi-Kwang from “Beast” are the queen and king of bee-stung lips) and Amber’s sincere charismatic appeal. Amber is spunky tomboyish with a bit of Michael Jackson androgyny, a lot Beat Girl and a good tonic for the usual identikit girl K-pop. Luna and Krystal are lovely ballad girls together, too, and along with sexy Victoria (with her partial Bloodrayne hair here – vampires?) and Sulli make f(x) a pretty cool-sexy gal band. More “Mr Boogie” songs though f (x)! |
