elegant storytelling
| The simplicity of a bygone era of films starts here. three stories, and three exquisitely beautiful women will linger long in your thoughts after the experience ends. the stories themselves are basic. mostly, it centres on the fallibility of men. how true! of course, the stories are dated, but since the style is threatical, trust rather--in your feelings and curiousity for a lost era and not high tech realism. A treat! nevermind the cinemascope, I found the transfer and color very acceptable for such a period piece. To be able to talk about people and the supernatural through the natural of actors and stage sets is high art. It teleported me (to an era my grandma would understand). I hope it does to you |

| Should add that like "Mad, Mad, Mad Sword" the DVD production itself is a disgrace, starting with a full-frame transfer of a famously gorgeous widescreen film. |

Cathay/Panorama on hiatus?
| Not so much a review of this item as of the DVD re-issue program as a whole. It is hard to understand the thinking behind the frustrating start/stop pacing of the releases--especially in comparison with the clockwork regularity of the Shaw Brothers/IVL series. Allowing customers to get into the habit of buying seems crucial for success in theis sort of enterprise. |
