Product Information
Farewell Brave Babylon
This is the true-life story of Captain Ali Al-Wahabi, who was an airline pilot in Hong Kong from 1989 to 2000.
He started flying with Iraqi Airlines in 1975 and was quickly promoted to be one of Saddam Hussein’s personal pilots, meeting many of the top VIPs including Saddam and his wife Sajedah, the psychopathic killer “Chemical Ali” and many more. As he witnessed the cruelty and corruption of Iraq’s leaders Ali became extremely unsettled.
When the Iraq Intelligence Service, The Muhabarak, tried to force Ali to betray a close friend, he had to flee the country or risk torture and even death. He escaped to London, then to Germany and after a year, landed a job flying in the Mediterranean island of Malta.
Two years later, in 1989, Ali came to Hong Kong and flew with Dragonair for eleven years. Read about the time he had to land a damaged jet airliner at Hong Kong’s old Kai Tak Airport during a typhoon.
In this book are many incidents and adventures from Ali’s exciting life, some humorous, some tragic. Farewell Brave Babylon is illustrated in colour with maps and photographs.
