Quintessential Cathay gem Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
It all starts with the writing. "Father Takes a Bride" has a simple, elegant story told in a very natural way through a thoughtful, beautifully written script. Add a skilled director and a cast that understands the subtle power of understated performances and you have a wonderful treat for the whole family. You Min provides the quiet, soulful heart of this small jewel of a movie, like an Audrey Hepburn with a common touch. This film is very highly recommended.

A performance of subtle elegance and heartfelt Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Lucilla Yu Min gave an indelible performance in this
simple family drama of children opposing their widowed
father to remarry all because of a neighbor's child
being mistreated by a cruel stepmother--it reminds one
of simpler times, simpler emotions. Wang Lai and Wang
Yin united again from another Yu Min film "Her Tender
Heart" proved once more how understatement (of gestures
and gazes) can be more powerful than heated hysterics.
A splendid cast (3 child actors and 5 excellent adults)
had polished this light drama into a brilliant gemstone
of great luminosity. A rare treat is provided by Lucilla Yu Min when she sang along with the radio, this
was one of her rare forays into singing...and she did
it with her usual elegant manner, I wish EMI would release a CD of all her songs (or better yet all of the
songs from the Cathay classics) so we can all sing along with her in our contemplative hours. "Father
takes a Bride" is a worthy addition to every fan's collection of Cathay Studios classic films.
