...so why write a review? Because I think this concert, and this DVD, is so amazing, I want everyone to watch it and Faye to have even more fans! Unbelievably enough she sings over thirty songs without being off - key for one single moment. In fact, I think she sounds even better than she does on record! At times she looks so small and fragile all alone on that huge stage. I can hardly believe how she keeps thousands of people spellbound like she does throughout the entire show! I am also happy this is NOT a karaoke DVD. So many DVDs are, but I want to hear Faye`s voice (not my own, although it`s impossible not to sing along!) Only wish she`d make new music soon. No regrets (!) for buying this!!! I love you Faye!!! |

A GREAT CONCERT FOR ALL !!!
A GREAT CONCERT FOR ALL !!!

I was listening to Jang Nara today singing some Canto pop and thought .ah what the heck,i pulled this gem out and watched it again and some songs twice such as Red Bean,This woman whom now i believe (hope i am wrong) has retired to live shows and maybe recording has never ceased to amaze me,Nope, i am not a fayenatic ,AH BUT; i have seen her live back in the day,as well as many other Asian female artists, she certainly knows how to bring the house down or should i say Rock the house with her energetic style as apparent here in Taiwan, i down loaded the concert c.d. set on my 360 hard drive as well, this is THE Faye Wong all her fans know and love ,she looks a bit fragile when she slips while mingling with the crowd ,but the song selection ,sound and show is great , like the show i attended. Most of my associates as well as my self have wives ,spouses or relatives, girlfriends whom are either Chinese,Korean ,or Japanese and i have a lot of connections in getting a lot of Asian material, that being said i have a Faye Wong collection as well as Boa,and some others, anyhow ,my associate gave me 2 Faye dvd's 1 from Tokyo, and another from China, the 1 from Tokyo, was not good ,good songs ,but she looks and sounded ,well ,not like Faye, kinda like Elvis before he passed in 77 ,he was looking rough in 75,Bottom line This is the real deal. If you like Faye's Music Then this CONCERT is the 1 for you !!!! |

Amazing...
|
This concert is amazing .. if you are a fan of the good music , so you will enjoy it ... and the lights are spectacular! ... with a 80's style ... her costumes are awsome .. and her voice .. woow ... the best chinese female voice i ever heard .... she don't need backup dancers , because she isn't like the other artists , her show has more quality than the other female singers ... if you want a happy pop show like morning musume or Jolin , don't buy this ... this is a serious concert, with a gerat voice, great stage and a great games of lights .... so if you want dancing and meaningless songs buy another concert , not this one ... I don't know where is the taste of some people ... =_= .... bye! |

Same classic songs, brand new interpretations

Many old immutable Faye Wong fans have noted that she has drastically changed her vocal style for this concert and some of them do not like it. It is obvious that some would not like this new style since she built her mega-fame on her ringing head voice and smooth vocal transitions. The fact is that this concert's vocals are somewhat of a throw-back to her early years where she incorporated much more chest voice in her singing. I think that this concert is worth it for long time fans because you hear new arrangements on old songs and a new vocal interpretation on each song. Many of the old hits I think she sang better than the CD. I think with a career as long as Faye's the last thing we need is another live CD that sounds like the other two. The thing that is amazing about Faye is that she is willing to change and be innovative whether fans like or dislike the change. I think it is time for another change. The last drastic change in her singing was back in 97. I can't wait to hear if she uses this new vocal style in her songs in the next studio CD. Anyway, if you don't like that she is using a much more raw vocal style in this live CD, go listen to her older concert CDs. I for one am glad that all three live Faye CDs I have are different vocally. |

One of the Best Concert Ever
One of the Best Concert Ever

I've watched this DVD more tha 5 times already since I bought it. This is one of the best concert I've ever seen on video. Faye sings well as we've expected. She didn't talk much, but what's the problem with that? It's a concert, not a talk show. |

losing her grip

Before I dig myself too deep into criticism, let me first make a disclaimer. I have been a fan of Faye Wong for years. Nonetheless, this album truly sucked. I don't understand why everyone's praising it so much, but don't people kind of realize there is something wrong with Faye's live singing? Pariticularly in this cd, so many words were swallowed half way down her throat. In almost every song, she seemed to half-grunted and half-swallowed her words. I don't deny that this could work in certain songs, but definintely not in those songs such as tian kong(sky) and etc. As a fan, I am truly disappointed by this album. (some may criticize my distaste for the wierd and strange, this is not so, my favorite faye album is actually Wu Chang(impatience). I am just really disappointed by the performance...it seems she was on drugs...kind of lost her magic) |

Not what expected
|
I recently purchased this Faye Wong DVD. Not too happy about it. It was the most boring concert that I've seen. There was no back-up dancers and her outfits gotta go. Have to admit though that Faye does have a good voice but the concert could have been more entertaining and she needs to speak up as well. |

Disappointing video quality on DVD
|
Somebody really dropped the ball in the post-production of this Faye Wong concert video. A concert video is suppose to enhance the experience of the performances. It was better just listening to the CD of this concert. Although it appears the concert was "professionally" taped with multiple cameras, the DVD video seems to be transferred from a low resolution (non-broadcast quality) tape (like analog VHS) onto DVD. In fact, I can easily convince myself I was watching a VHS videotape, but even that could be better. It was more like a VCD with all the compression artifacts. The picture quality seems to vary (go from bad to worse) depending on the camera or lighting. Also, the aspect ratio of the video slightly mimics widescreen, but there is no point to this as the DVD transfer is not anamorphic and video quality was bad. Enough about the post production quality. the audio performance seemed comparable to the CD with excellent song selections and a good band. My gripe with the concert video production is that there we not enough shots of the band members playing at the right times. I mean that the director/producer should be keen on capturing a guitar solo or when the drummer makes a notable impact on the song. It was mostly head shots of Faye and wide angle view of the stage. The times when band members were shown was when Faye was singing! Talk about bad timing. I really have no desire to watch the DVD so I will stick to listening the CD or SACD which I have. If you must watch the video because you are a die-hard Faye Wong fan (like I am), the VCD might be just as effective (or ineffective). |
