Final Fantasy XII marks Square Enix's twelfth installment in the epic Final Fantasy saga and the first traditional role-playing game since Final Fantasy X. Whereas Final Fantasy X-2 was more mission-based, Final Fantasy XI was focused on online gameplay, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles centered on multiplayer link-ups, this exciting new chapter in the series hearkens back to an earlier style of play. It provides gamers with features they've come to expect from a traditional Final Fantasy game - an epic storyline, a party setup, and the possibility for character advancement.

Produced and directed by Yasumi Matsuno (Final Fantasy Tactics), this single-player, offline RPG takes place in a faraway land known as Ivalice, in a magical era on the brink of all-out war. It seems the Archadian Empire seeks to expand its control, raiding and enslaving the neighboring cities one by one. When the Archadian forces create a new consul in the small kingdom of Dalmasca, a lighthearted seventeen-year-old street urchin named Vaan takes notice, plotting to sneak into the consul's castle and steal a treasure or two! However, Vaan finds himself in completely over his head, as he's caught up in a rebel uprising! Joining him on this adventure are the spunky, strong-willed Princess Ashe, the sole remaining heir to the Dalmascan throne; the beautiful Penelo, Vaan's longtime girlfriend; the daring Balthier, a sky pirate; and the warrior Fran, Balthier's partner! All will help Vaan along the way as he begins to unravel the mysteries behind the Archadian Empire's quest for total domination!
