Marrying the perfect guy is every woman's dream, but more often than not, it's just wishful thinking. Ji Hyun (Lee Young Ae of Dae Jang Geum) is a young and talented screenwriter with a family-approved marriage on the cards. Her fiance might be rich and love her but he's also a chauvinist and not willing to let go of family traditions, even if that means making Ji Hyun happy. Driven to her limits by the situation, Ji Hyun leaves for Thailand on a vacation, where she meets Kang Wook (Cha In Pyo of Hanbando and The Great White Tower), a surgeon who is about to marry his first love. The two have a one night stand, and return to their respective unhappy relationships. But they keep thinking about that night, when Firework went off.

Called the Queen of Korean Dramas, writer Kim Soo Hyun earned that label in the last 40 years, with one hit after another. When she was working solely for MBC in the 80s, her dramas reached unbelievable ratings, like an average rating of 70% for Love and Ambition in 1986. When she left MBC in the early 90s, she continued the trend at KBS and SBS, with such hits as Bathhouse People, Trap of Youth, and more recently the remake of her own Love and Ambition. Firework is a unique drama, as it was actually more popular outside Korea, particularly in Taiwan and Singapore. The show made Cha In Pyo a Korean Wave star, and continued Lee Young Ae's gradual unstoppable rise to stardom.

康旭(李璟榮飾)和之賢(李英愛飾)在出國旅行當中，相互產生好感，在飯店門口康旭和之賢又碰面的時候，康旭主動跟之賢搭訕，兩個人聊天當中，不知不覺地相互產生好感，當天晚上兩個人走到海邊散步，並發生關係，事後兩個人各自回到飯店，之賢回到房間不知道怎麼接受這件已發生的事實。之賢的哥哥打電話來，叫之賢不要自己一個人旅行，之賢不願意接受未婚夫公司的人來幫忙，並和哥哥說，這次旅行希望一個人走一走，但隔天她的未婚夫忠赫(車仁表飾)到曼谷找之賢，忠赫向之賢道歉，忠赫說只是擔心之賢工作太累，所以才跟之賢說不要工作。之賢事先不知道忠赫到曼谷找他，所以一直沒有機會跟康旭解釋，康旭從飯店出來的時候，還在門口親眼看到之賢和忠赫一起坐車離開飯店，之賢一直沒有機會把解釋的紙條交給康旭就回國了。之賢回國之後，她決定親自去機場見他，在機場等康旭的時候，之賢看到康旭和敏晶在熱吻……

Gang-wook (Lee Gyeong-yeong) and Ji-hyeon (lee Yeong-ae) meet on a business trip and find each other attractive. They become intimate at the hotel. They enjoy a trip to the beach. They ask about their jobs and finally express their feelings toward each other without even exchanging names... Thinking about Gang-wook, Ji-hyeon is unable to sleep. Ji-hyeon receives a call from her brother Ji-tae (Song Yeong-chang). She assures her brother not to worry as it is only a trip. The next day, she meets Ji Sa-won. She dresses up and has a nice dinner with Gang-wook. In the meantime, Jong-hyeok (Cha In-pyo) comes and looks for Ji-hyeon in the hotel. He finds her hotel room. He tells her that she is his love and his property. Ji-hyeon tries to tell Gang-wook that she must leave earlier, but she is unable to tell him. She decides to go back to Korea. When she comes downstairs with Jong-hyeok, she runs into Gang-wook in the lobby. Gang-wook gets an uncomfortable feeling from Ji-hyeon standing beside Jong-hyeok, Ji-hyeon and Jong-hyeok return home and everyone in her family welcomes Jong-hyeok as if they have married. The next day, she meets Gang-wook at the airport. But is surprised at seeing a woman welcoming Gang-wook at the airport...

I was very suprised how good this show was. The only bad this is the subtitles are very very bad! Yesasia should have a rating chart on the quality of English Subtitles, (poor, good, excellent).

Firework and how!! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This was the first story that I've seen that was mature and thoughtful, as opposed to the Cinderella stories we usually see. Lee Young Ae is a superb actress and this story truly showcases her talents. It is the story of a young woman, who buckles to pressure to be married before she realizes her dreams for her career. On a trip she meets someone who she is attracted to and has a one night stand. Both people are engaged to others, but, recognize that they have met the person they would be better off with. The plastic surgeon that she meets is engaged to a doctor who comes from a dysfunctional family. She, Lee Young Ae, is engaged to a businessman from a very traditional family who totally dismisses her writing career in favor of her being a stay at home wife. The businessman, unfortunately doesn't realize that this situation is stifling his bride and although he tries to help, he too is ineffective in resolving the situation. All of the acting was excellent and there were fireworks in every chapter. The only complaint I had was the English subtitles weren't very good, but, the action was such that one could understand just what was going on. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to see a good dramatic series with a more adult theme.

Love vs Tradition Independence vs Duty Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Lee Young Ae got caught in all kinds of dilemma
that have to do with her independence
in love, in career and in duty of tradition. She
was again excellent in this series. I don't know
much about Lee Kyung Young. I liked him a lot for
his role as a mature doctor who is suffocating by
his wife's smothering and scheming dependence on
him. In this series, true love triumphs at the end
(not without cost, but that's life).
The whole series may not deserve a 10. But for
Lee Young Ae, a definite 10+.

LOOOOOOOOOOONG and BOOORING! Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
THis is the worst of all the k-novelas I have seen! There were no FIREWORKS AT ALL!! my goodness! The story is so lame yet the director managed to DRAGGED it for 34 episodes! Story is so long without sense !it is repetitive of the already established conflict! The ACTOR IS not even goodlooking!hayyyyyyyyyy what a waste!!!! AGAIN, as always, this Korean telenovela depicts how arrogant AND barbaric KOREAN MALES are!
WHY KOREANS HIT WOMEN AT ALL IS BEYOND COMPREHENSION! WHY DO THEY LIKE VIOLATING WOMEN?

Problem with DVD discs Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I liked this drama and have seen it before I bought the DVD. The quality of this DVD is a bit disappointing. You may find some disc cannot be loaded. Also, there's a few seconds 'blackout' in disc 11. I bought this as a collectable item, but the quality itself didn't serve the purpose. I hope 'yesasia.com' will consider removing this from the shopping list unless they can source this series with better quality.
