Before Cape No. 7, Taiwan had this similarly touching film about interracial romance set against the beautiful backdrop of a southern Taiwan fishing island, and like Cape, this film features popular singers in the lead roles.
Selected for screening at the 2005 Pusan and Tokyo Film Festivals, Fishing Luck is about a Taipei girl Jing (played by pop singer and VJ Linda) who goes on a business trip to the fishing town of Lanyu Island, famous for the abundance of flying fish. There she loses her purse as well as her boyfriend, who has double-crossed her back in Taipei. In desperation, she stays in the house of an aboriginal boy Feng (played by Golden Melody Award-winning singer-songwriter Biung Wang), and feelings begin to grow between them. When Jing has to go back to Taipei, Feng gives her a flying fish hairpin, and some fond memories to take home with.
