A big disappointment
The movie was extremely long & boring, all over the place... a big disappointment on Karena for choosing this role... The execution of the 'final ideal lover' seemed like the director had ran out of time, then quickly pieced together a 'out of no where' ending, it lacked realistic emotions between the characters and sense on how they fell in love, and then 'BOOM!!!' jump straight to the ending and they live happily ever after. ahahahha It felt like the story was very commercialised, hard-selling the pretty boys in the asia circle, the music, and not to mention, the car. I'd say don't waste your money on getting this, you're basically paying to look at eye candy. And c'mon, can they not come up with a more original DVD sleeve design? It's a knock-of of 'Love, actually' /._.\ My god |

Karena Lam deserves better
How peculiar that, with "Fit Lover", director Zhang Jianya makes a mirror image copy of his previous film "Call for Love". Unfortunately, what seemed fresh and funny in "Call for Love" seems tired and tiresome in "Fit Lover". Karena Lam plays Nie Bing, the popular host of a TV show about love and marriage. Unfortunately, she hasn't been able to find love or marriage in her own life and, now approaching 30, is pressured by family and friends to find a husband. Now a peculiar genie pops into her life to assure her that before she turns 30 she will meet 12 eligible husband candidates ... and if you've seen "Call for Love", then you have a pretty good idea of what to expect of most of those candidates. That's the central problem with "Fit Lover" -- if you've seen the previous film, then you've seen it all before. Moreover, what made "Call for Love" such a memorable experience was its crisp writing; in "Fit Lover", the writing is shockingly flaccid, sometimes verging on the preposterous. Fortunately, all is not lost. Karena Lam almost single-handedly makes this film watchable. She exudes such playful charm, beauty and charisma that I was willing to go along for the ride. Among the husband candidates, only Leo Ku and especially Fan Wei give stand-out performances. Let's hope that with his next film director Zhang comes up with a new idea; he surely has beaten this premise into the ground. |
