From Tsurumaki Kazuya, an assistant director on
Neon Genesis Evangelion, comes the animated adaptation of Enokido Yoji's novel
FLCL. In addition to Tsurumaki,
Evangelion production house Gainax and many major
Evangelion staff members also reunite for this six-episode OVA series. With a surreal story and irreverent set pieces (including a
South Park parody) that attracted numerous debates among its fans, the science fiction romance has been immensely popular in both Japan and abroad since its release in 2000-2001. Ten years after its original airing, both its Japanese and English version are now finally coming to Blu-ray.
The first meeting between Naota and Haruko isn't exactly traditional: she hits him with a Vespa scooter and resuscitates him with a bass guitar on the head. Their relationship gets stranger when Naoto discovers that Haruko is his family's new live-in maid. Things get even weirder and more complicated when robots from a large corporation begin to come out of his forehead, and Haruko reveals that she's much more than just a live-in maid.
Blu-ray Edition comes with audio commentary, music videos of songs from the series, trailers, and the credit-less opening of the show.
