Silver screen icon Ivy Ling Po is perhaps best remembered for her gender-bending performances. After garnering great acclaim in the male lead role for Li Han Hsiang's classic The Love Eterne (1963), she went on to show her masculine side in films like Yueh Feng's Hua Mu Lan (1964), Chun Yen's The Grand Substitution (1965), Li Kao's The Mermaid (1965), and other Huangmei opera films. Ling's illustrious acting career, however, consisted of a wide range of films and characters, and 1972's Flight Man saw her taking on the role of an earthy village girl. Beautiful and charismatic, she lights up the screen opposite Wang Rong (Fight For the Agreement, Million Dollar Bride). Flight Man is helmed by Taiwanese director Ting Shan Si, one of the more prolific Shaw Brothers filmmakers of the 70s and 80s. His versatile filmography includes films like Furious Slaughter (1972), Whiplash (1974), and A Queen's Ransom (1976).

A heroic tale set in the Japanese-occupied Taiwan, Flight Man centered on Yang A-pao (Wang Jung), a patriotic youngster whose fianc Teng Feng (Ling Yin) was harassed by a Chinese traitor Pan Ta-chih. A-pao murdered him in a rage and wounded the Japanese police chief. He fled to the Ma Lan Forest and fell in love with the native Yu San-mei (Ivy Ling Po), but the Japanese police was soon hot on his trails…
