August 3, 2011 A masterpiece, but not apt for everybody. The movie builds up slowly, yet firm and steady. After the first hour, it has grabbed your guts without your even noticing it, and it simply won't let go until the very end. The story is quite over the top, that is very much true, but serves perfectly as a vehicle to trigger the deepest, most contradictory emotions. One feels sorry for the killer, feels good when she kills, just can't wait for the victims to be killed as painfully as possible. What a powerful film!! South Korean movie makers are, at this point, among the very best in the world, no doubt about it. Technically impeccable, they have mastered script writing, setting, directing, acting, and all aspects related to this art. Yes, it is entertainment, but is also art, and the most powerful one, as it is able to trigger such hidden, dark emotions. The last shot of the movie (this is not really a spoiler) of the woman body fusing with the profile of the island was so beautiful and unexpected that it truly gave me a real thrill. Then, the images and music as the end titles roll leave you with the most tender and saddest feelings after the almost unbearable realistic horror ride. Realistic not because of the blood, which is generous, but not over the top; realistic because of the way it touches and manipulates, for the best, our darkest emotions. Once again, I must say that Asian cinema is, nowadays, far, very far ahead of European and especially US cinema. Uncompromising, entertaining and always surprising...doesn't it sound just the opposite to the rutinary, boring and utterly predictable US movies?

Kill Bill Vol.1 (US Theatrical Cut) (Blu-ray) (Japan Version)
Kill Bill Vol.1 (US Theatrical Cut) (Blu-ray) (Japan Version) Blu-ray Region A
(1)Our Price: US$61.49Usually ships within 7 - 14 daysMay 5, 2010 Missed chance...this is NOT the Japanese cut!!My rating is not for the movie, but for this particular release. I was looking forward for Kill Bill vol.1 to appear in Blu-Ray in Japan. I already have the Japanese version on DVD, with extra bloody footage and the tea-house fight in glourious color. Well, they dediced to release the US theatrical version instead...too bad, I will either stick to my Japan version DVD or buy the standard Blu-Ray version anywhere else. It really is a missed chance, because the Japanese version is really the director's cut...but Tarantino was too coward and turned the tea-house massacre into a pathetic black and white everywhere else...

I just wanted to add that this very edition worked fine in my region B player as well (I also have a region A player, just in case, but it was not necessary).

Blood And Bones (DTS Version) (Hong Kong Version)
Blood And Bones (DTS Version) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
(2)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysOctober 20, 2008 Awsome, inmense, touching. This movie left me speechless. The story itself and the multiple levels of reading it are so rich one can hardly express it. Most of all, it's a methapore on how selfishness and hatred can poison life...our own, and that of the people we are supposed to love. After one gets over the story, a painful, palpitating shred of life itself, what is left is an inmense piece of filmaking, so solid and subtle that one hardly notices it at first. Something Hollywood hasn't made for many years now. Like the masterpieces of old times, not recommended for everybody (certainly not for pop-corn consumers) because of its apparent slow rithm, yet not be missed by anyone who loves Movies with capital letters. The Art of Cinema is alive and kicking in the Far East. USA movies RIP.

August 13, 2008 It's magic!!Please, never mind the "messy" review, this movie is magic. It has more cinematic art and emotion than all the Occidental movies from the last years. Tender but hard, romantic but ruthless, idealised but down to earth. Movies like this certify the death of Occidental cinema, right now light years away from this powerful Oriental film-making, artistic and full of sentiment. Don't miss it!!
