A product of sincerity
A product of sincerity

Despite his charisma and strong on-screen presence as an idol, I don’t harbour high expectations for Jerry Yan as a singer. But I’m delighted at the effort and sincerity that is evident throughout this album. From the 5 years preparation in the production process to the careful selection of songs to ensure that they are suitable for Jerry’s vocal ability, this is definitely not a rushed product to meet market demands. Jerry’s singing has also improved (though not tremendously) and credit also goes to the emotions he puts in. Compared to his debut album 5 years back, this sophomore album of his is certainly a step up in his music career. With the exception of track 5 which is a band sound track with an edgy punk feel, the album consists mostly of soft ballads, light-hearted songs with merry beats – those radio friendly and easy to hum along type. It strikes a balance between mainstream music but NOT to the extent of being cheesy bubble-gum pop songs, which is something I’m delighted about. At least SONY doesn’t make the music sound cheap. Definitely a must-buy for supporters of Jerry Yan and those willing to give his music a try. But if you are some self-conceited oh-i-dont-think-this-talentless-jerry-idol-can-pull-off-a-tune type, then I suggest that you stay away from this album and miss the chance of proving you wrong. |
