i guess i'm late for everything. hehe. although i rented it at blockbuster, this movie was good regardless. it made me question what i would choose, loyalty or friends? it's hard and it would be horrible to decide, but in the movie they had too, and i think it was worthwhile to see that everyone has a heart despite their backgrounds. the ending was confusing to me, but good either way. i love this movie! |

This R3 dvd is really R0

Theres no reason anyone should have for not picking this up. With the cheap price its selling for, excellent box art, and great outside tin, its a BONUS to know that the disc plays in any region players. Once again, this disc is advertised as R3 with the box art confirming it, BUT the disc is actually R0 and will play anywhere! |

The film is great cinematography wise and the story is very emphatetic..but one thing that seriously could have been improved was some of the focus of the film. The film overly concentrates on two characthers of the film and pretty much forsakes all the rest... It would have also been great if there were more love interests in the film, or if the love interest that was in the film could have been developed more. Overall though, the film is pretty excellent..though it should be noted that its pretty much a korean gangster film. |

very nostalgic

i think this movie is more for guys than girls. This isn't some love movie. its about friendship. this is about four friends. One is a "leader" (joon), a "follower" (Dong), a "nerd" (San-Taek), and an "average" (jook) guy. Joon-Suk treats San-taek as a person to talk to when he has problems while he treats Dong as his sidekick. Joon-suk has always had leadership until Dong joins Joon-suk's hated gang leader's gang. during the movie, joon-suk's gang secretly tries to assasinate Dong himself. Dong instead kills Joon-suk's loyalists and misunderstandingly thinks that Joon-Suk sent them against him and sends his own people to infiltrate Joon-suks gang. ironically at the end Joon-suk tells Dong to leave for Hawaii until things calm down but he feels like he is superior to Joon-suk since Joon-suk has become too soft. So he tells Joon-suk to go himself and Joon-suk does that. But as soon as Joon-suk leaves Dong decides to himself that he will go instead. But as soon as he gets outside his own loyalists assassinates him. In the end San-taek, whom is telling the story, realizes that of out of the four friends, Joon-suk and Dong were best friends from out of them. |

I have not seen Korean movies for a good while, but I was truly amazed at how profoundly Korean film industry has grown. Very powerful and dynamic. My hats off to the director Kwak. Awaiting to see more of his films. |

Another kkang pae movie ?

For all those that think this movie is strictly for men, it's not. On the outside it seems like just another gang movie, one that has a weak plot but mostly just about the happenings of gangs, the murders, the sex-related aspects that come along with it, and if that's what you think, you must have not really been watching this. With some of the most talented actors and an exceptional director who seems to know exactly what he wants and how he wants it done, this movie goes beyond what the typical gangster movie is. Everything that happens in this story has a deeper meaning to it, one that the casual observer may not notice. All scenes have significance in the story, even the fight scenes. This in itself is impressive considering most movies throw in fight scenes just for the fun of it, just to show that they can and for pure entertainment. While the theme of this movie is certainly nothing new, the aspect that sets "Chin Goo" apart from all the other movies surrounding this theme is the way it conveys it. So many other movies in the past tried to express this theme but failed. Now finally, there comes a movie that sets the benchmark for all future movies. There's a reason this movie is the most successful one in Korea's history. Watch it. |

An amazing flic

I just finished watching this movie a second time and all I can say is that this movie was amazing. It put tears to my eyes. everyone seems to be calling this a gangster film, but I think its more a film about relations, friends, loyalty, in fact the gangster part doesn't necessarily play a huge part I think. Anyways I would highly recommend this film ^^... |

One of the best Korean films ever

Remember those days of growing up and having close buddies that you would die for? Well, sometimes you grow apart and live different lives, but sometimes people don't change and you end up becoming a gangster. That's the way life is, y'know? The cast is dynamic - smart, funny, strong, silent. Great cinematography, put together with great editing. There's also a music score that brings back lots of memories, as much a the fashions from our childhoods. This is the 2nd Korean movie that I rented. This first was Shiri. Both of these got me started watching more and more Korean. Now I've got almost 30 DVD's in the past 6 months. |
