Something different
|
I think with this CD Ayaka Hirahara is showing she can sing a different octave. I've collected all her CDs and there are always (more than) a few songs that I find worthwhile listening to, unlike most pop stars worldwide where there is one big hit on the CD and the rest are crap, filler stuff - or all the songs sound alike. Ayaka has a world class vibrato, which Jupiter highlighted, but none of the songs that followed seem to do justice to her voice. She has a Melissa Manchester-type potential, and she should work on her volume to bring out her awesome vibrato and range. But I like the direction Ayaka is going: pop rock; Leanne Rimes/Celine Dion/Melissa Manchester-ish, as I hate jazz. Ayaka is remarkably prolific though, and it's just a matter of time before she comes out with another masterpiece, or at least blockbuster like Jupiter. In the meantime, I find every one of her CDs enjoyable. |

Excellent
| I think this is a really good covers' album, there are some great versions of J-pop classics. Ayaka's versions of Toshinobu Kubota's 'Missing' and Momoe Yamaguchi's 'Cosmos' are improvements on the originals. If you go into this expecting to hear stuff similar to her first two album, you'll be disappointed. If you're a long-time J-pop fan you'll enjoy hearing Hirahara's take on these songs. |
