With over 20 singers debuting in Hong Kong in 2008, G.E.M. Tang has a steep hill to climb, but she's already emerging as one of the year's strongest newcomers. Though only 17 years old, G.E.M. has been exposed to music for many years, as she comes from a family of musicians and started playing piano at a young age. Singing mostly in the R&B style, she has powerful vocals that belie her young age and sweet appearances. Her self-titled debut album comes with five songs, three Cantonese and two Mandarin. As a preview of her songwriting talent, G.E.M. penned the lyrics for her main plug "Waiting For Him", which is arranged by Mark Lui.
The 3rd Edition comes with a G.E.M. Polaroid sticker.

Best Newcomer in Hong Kong :)

I don't have the EP yet but I love her songs!!!! she has a really good r&b style that I love to death!!! I just can't wait till the EP comes back out!!! I want to get it so badly. haha... G.E.M. is totally different than the other female singers in hong kong. she has a very unique vocal voice... and she controls it very well. This has got to be the first EP to come out with all of the songs to be good. I listen to her songs back to back like almost every night when I go to bed. Its just refreshing to see a new face in the music biz that can surely sing~!!! And she's only 17 years old, which makes it even more amazing!!! she has such a mature singing voice at her age... she will be great in the future... can't wait to see what is in stores... I love all of her songs but my favorite ones are 等一個他, Where Did U Go, and 回憶的沙漏 ...... Actually I lied... All 5 songs are my favorite :P <33333333333 |

I had become increasingly disappointed with hk pop, until this girl popped up in the various music awards. I gave the cd a try and its fantastic. This girl has talent!!! Its rare that all songs on an album are good but this is an exception. This may only be an EP b but the 5 songs are all great, my favourites are 3 and 5 but I've listened to the 5 songs over and over again and I don't tire of them. Thats something that doesn't happen much! Her style is just so refreshing for hk pop, very catchy and upbeat! I have nothing but praise for G.E.M, hopefully she will continue this into the future! Can't wait for the next one1 |

One of the best artists in 2008
| G.E.M. started composing some of her songs at an early age and some of them can be found on this E.P. she sings well for her age (17 at the time of this review). she has won over many competitions she has entered in. track 5 is my favorite followed closely by track 2. but all 5 of her songs have potential to be major hits. |

Extremely promising newcomer

I had almost given up on Canto-pop (and music coming out of HK in general), but this girl is gonna save it. This is one of the best debut albums I've ever heard. All five songs on this CD are wonderfully catchy (especially track 2, Where Did U Go?). I really enjoy the versatility of this album and how well she can sing these different styles. And I could just go on and on and on about how amazing her voice is, especially for her age (she's only 17 years old)!! It's rare to find a voice that powerful in canto-pop, seriously. Not only is her voice powerful, she controls it extremely well, singing delicately when the song calls for it and then belting as the song reaches its climax. Her voice is beautiful!! She sings with so emotion too <3. Especially in her ballads (track 3 and 5), which really show off her vocal prowess. (Be sure to youtube her live performances as well; she sounds just as amazing live!) Buy a copy; you won't regret it <3. |
