가인의 첫 솔로 앨범 ‘step 2/4’
2009년 ‘Abracadabra’, ‘Sign’, ‘시건방춤’, ‘스모키 메이크업’, ‘아담부부’ 등으로 가요계의 핫이슈로 떠오른 브라운아이드걸스의 가인이 첫 솔로 앨범을 발표한다. 이번 가인의 솔로 앨범은 브라운아이드걸스 3집 를 제작한 조영철 프로듀서와 최고의 스텝들이 참여하여, 기존 가인의 이미지를 한 층 더 극적으로 업그레이드 시키고 있다. 다소 실험적인 장르들을 한국 대중음악계에 선보이며 이슈의 중심에 섰던 조영철 프로듀서는 이번 가인 솔로 앨범에서는 비대중적 장르로 분류되는 탱고라는 장르를 현대적으로 해석하여 앨범 전체 수록곡을 탱고라는 한가지 장르만으로 하는 과감한 시도를 감행했다. 앨범명인 ‘step 2/4’도 탱고의 기본 리듬인 2/4박자를 암시적으로 표현한 것이다.

가인의 첫 솔로 타이틀곡 '돌이킬 수 없는'은 현재 활동중인 한국 대중음악가들 중 대중과 평론단으로부터 가장 높은 평가를 받고 있는 작곡가 윤상과 근래 히트곡 메이커로 급부상한 이민수 작곡가의 특별한 공동작업을 통해 만들어졌다.

 Flawless solo album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
We all knew Brown Eyed Girls could sing and harmonize together but we always questioned how well they would do if they were to release a solo album.

I must say, I really enjoyed Ga-In's solo album and her song "Irreversible" is so amazing and different from the typical songs we hear from K-pop.

The mv is really interesting to watch and her live singing and choreography would make you crave for more performances from Ga-In.

Overall I loved the album but they could have improved the packaging.

I'm always a fan of Brown Eyed Girls. As group, I believe this group is different than the other. They really understand their power and they can show it easily on each albums. But how about BEG as solo singer? The first one to release a solo album is Narsha, and that album is beyond my expectation. Therefore, my expectation with Ga In's album is even higher. When I first heard that the concept will be Tango, I was surprised. Not many will take that concept easily but again, BEG is also known to be different than most group these days. "Irreversible" is crazily an amazing track and got me hooked the minute I hear this track. Ga In's husky voice is really suitable with this track.

But don't think that the surprise ends here. The other tracks from this album are amazing one as well. My next favorite from the album is "Esperando". It has seductive feeling..and Ga In's surely show that Ga In as solo singer is different comapred to Ga In as BEG member. I personally think that Ga In has to be proud with her 1st ever solo album. She has done a very amazing job.

Now, about the CD package. All the photos from this album are amazing. The teary eyed of Ga In in the cover is very attractive in her own way. And I also find it interesting to see the making of her MV. It surely a hard work for her, and this girl surely can act and dance.
I really recommend this album for you to buy.

Irreversible Love Won’t Let Go Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
If you love Brown Eyed Girls, but wondered if Ga-in and sisterly chum Narsha’s solo projects were diluted forms of the whole, rest assured that both solo works are worth looking at. Certainly Narsha’s gothic glam debut was superb and Ga-in’s “Step 2/4”, here of a more different gypsy tango style with mysterious sexy erotic passion, is excellent. (Actually, Ga-in getting the big elbow from her boyfriend and not standing for it, according to the excellent MV). The music, packaging and MV are richly sophisticated and partially a self portrait (although a theatrical persona of Ga-in I’d have thought) by the self-evident song “Ga-In” (track 5). The six songs are also linked by a core thematic of a French/Spanish tango sound by predominant accordion/violin, blended with subtle dance electronics (a synth beat sound similar to Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me”) featuring a great emotive and passionate vocal melody line by Ga-in (will stick in your head, be assured). The intro “Nitchell”, main song “deur i-kill su eom-neum” (Irreversible) and final “Jinsil” are pretty well the same ditty with variations on a theme. Being more closer to K-pop Seeya and Davichi than BEG’s big dance numbers like “Abracadabra”, this won’t of course be all out blistering K-pop dance. But it is dance and an excellently produced one at that, of the universal theme of hurt love. Ga-in portrays well a sad, impassioned girl (coquettish, too) jilted by her fella to the seductive step dancing, tango of “Irreversible”. Ga-in’s certainly a very sweet and skilled singer and here shines with her new style. To look at Ga-in’s sad (quite icon) tear stained photo cover also puts across more artistic license. Interesting that K-pop’s Sunny Hill trio also appear on the chorus vocal of “Irreversible”.

An additional welcome is the DVD, with 4 menu options; full MV with intro/ending parts, Making of, NGs and an uncensored version of the MV. The MV was filmed in Camden, Australia with the posh house shots and Ga-in, no doubt, enjoyed herself making t, even getting some mirth by slapping Sung-jae Lee's chops (6 times!!!!!!) on re-takes. Ga-in also gets herself a plush cuddly kangaroo toy to love and apparently a few bruises after jumping out of the house window for the ‘hey, come back here, guy!’ scenes. Leave the kangaroo to do the jumping, Ga-in! Packaging is a portrait hard cover with photo booklet on inside cover, printed on lovely thick paper. If you’re a BEG fan, you'll love this Ga-in package!

I must say that this wasn't what I was expecting when I heard news of Gain making a solo debut. Just like how Narsha shocked me with her creative sound, Gain blew me away as well.

This album is so different from the k-pop mainstream that I hesitate to call it k-pop at all. The songs really has a professional spanish feel. I even expected to hear spanish after listening to the beats.

Normally, singers promotional tracks end up being completely different from the rest of the album and you end up a bit optimistic as to whether you like the artist as a whole or just for a single song. Well, with this debut, the album comes together as a whole.

I really enjoyed this fresh sound from Son Gain. Her voice matches with the genre so well and I enjoyed the abum immensely. The most memorable tracks for me was the promotional track as well as 'Tango in the Night' and 'Esperando'. They really make me want to do spanish ballroom dancing like the tango. :)

P.S. The final track 'Jinsil' is like an extension of the promotional track.
