An Elegant, yet Jarring Film
Gemini is definitely not your average, cut-and-dried Japanese horror film. Actually, in this case, the term horror film seems nothing more than a misnomer. This is an elegant, haunting film, set in the Meiji period of Japan (following the Russo-Japanese War), with an ominous and unique cyber punk aesthetic. It reveals a complex plotline, which expands upon the original tale (written by Edogawa Rampo), through character development and in an engaging and thought-provoking way. But nothing in this movie is simply fed to its audience; it is the audiences duty to observe and absorb this film experience and to interpret the films meaning in their own way. Shinya Tsukamoto and Masahiro Motoki are extremely talented and really make this movie what it is. I highly recommend this film above all other film adaptations of Rampos work. |

Hated It
After reading the review on this site for this movie I was so excited about ordering it. When it finally arrived and I sat down to watch it, I was extrememly disappointed. The movie is short and the story is very rushed. Many elements of the story line are only briefly explained and some are not explained at all. The characters are underdeveloped and there is very little action. At the moment I thought the picture would get interesting it was over. This is not a film I would recommend and I'm glad I bought it on VCD first and not on DVD. |

One Of The Best Movie Ever!!!!
Get the movie now!!! This movie is definitely one of the best movie of all time!!! This movie combines mystery, asian horror, and love story all into one movie. These elements bond so well that you cant tell what kinda movie it really is, there is absolutely no gap or any diversity between the elements. What I really like about this movie is that it keeps you in suspense and creates a mood that force you to feel like you are in that movie. The most brilliance part of the movie is near the end, when the writer of the movie use the identity of the twin to play tricks with your mind. The climax explains pretty much the whole movie but yet also make you confuse abut what just happened. I tried to organize the plot but just got more confuse at the end. Trust me!!! Dont try it out!!! At the end you just cant tell Who is Who, What is What, Where is Where, When is When, and Why is Why..... |
