Released in July 2007, Genius Party is a feature-length anthology of seven animated shorts produced by Studio 4C, the animation house behind Memories and Tekkon Kinkreet. The collection's title refers to the great talents brought together for this project, which showcases the creative works of both veterans and directing newcomers. Given free rein to animate to different languages, narratives, and aesthetics, the filmmakers presented vastly different and worthwhile works, kicking off with Fukushima Atsuko's titular Genius Party, an animated ecological meditation on birth.

Art director Kimura Shinji makes his directorial debut with Deathtic 4, a short set in the world of dead, while manga artist Fukuyama Yuji's debut Doorbell goes even creepier with the story of a boy who encounters his doppelganger. Macross creator Kawamori Shoji takes a simple tale of childhood bullying into fanciful directions in Shanghai Dragon, and Mind Game director Yuasa Masaaki presents life from the eyes of an infant in Happy Machine. The entry that has garnered the most attention is Cowboy Bebop director Watanabe Shinichiro's seishun short Baby Blue which features the voices of Yagira Yuya and Kikuchi Rinko. Conceived as a two-parter, Genius Party was followed up with the sequel Genius Party Beyond in February 2008.

「アニマトリックス」「マインド・ゲーム」「鉄コン筋クリート」などの話題作を生む出し続けるSTUDIO4℃のもとに、日本のアニメ界が誇る7人の映像作家が集結して制作されたオムニバス・アニメーション作品「Genius Party ジーニアス・パーティ」。ゲーム「ポポロクロイス物語」でキャラクター・デザインを手がけた福島敦子、「マクロス」シリーズの河森正治、「クレヨンしんちゃん」シリーズの湯浅政明、「カウボーイビバップ」「アニマトリックス」の渡辺信一郎など、世界が認める才能によって誕生した、まったく新しいパーティ・ムービーである。2007年7月に劇場公開されたほか、2008年2月にはアメリカ・ケネディセンターで行われた『ジャパン・フェスティバル』にて世界に誇る日本文化の代表作としてワールドプレミア上映され、好評を博した。渡辺信一郎監督作品「BABY BLUE」では、カンヌ映画祭で史上最年少で最優秀主演男優賞を獲得した柳楽優弥と、2007年度アカデミー賞で話題となった菊地凛子が声優に初挑戦している。
