Ghost (Japan Version)

The ghost in question here is not the haunting kind, but rather the ghost in the machine which Gackt gives voice to in this electronic hard rock number. Opening with the sound of creaking machines and techno beats, GHOST jumps into a simple rock melody replete with electronic sounds, guitar, and digital noise, plus Gackt's deep, resonant vocals distorted for robotic effect. The vocal distortion gradually clears away as the song progresses and breaks from its heavily layered shell. The song's dark and powerful lyrics are similar in sentiment to those of Jesus, screaming agonized thoughts and pleads for salvation. A very successful fusion of rock, electronic, and all manners of sound effects, GHOST gets all the better if you think of it as a Gackt robot dance track (refer to music video).

GHOST's machine crank-down, digital-noise fadeout leads into the unique B-side Blue Lagoon which channels the mystery and sonorous sounds of the deep sea. The dramatically low-pitched and deliberately paced opening verse dives into an increasingly electronic arrangement with a lyrical repeating riff fitting for a grand RPG score, and very fitting for the Gackt canon.
