Girls Without Tomorrow VCD

An all-star cast highlights Girls Without Tomorrow, a harrowing drama about the sordid truths behind the world's oldest profession. Acclaimed actress Maggie Cheung stars as a TV actress who sometimes makes international "house calls" to supplement her income. However, for some prostitutes, the life is far more desperate. Housewife Petrina Fung engages in prostitution to pay for her husband's kidney transplant, and Carrie Ng sells her body to care for her ailing mother. Other prostitutes are forced to sell themselves for abusive boyfriends, or simply because they were denied other, less sordid careers. Director David Lam refuses to provide easy answers to the complex social and emotional issues facing the women, and the result is a film that doesn't put a happy face on prostitution. Unlike Julia Roberts' character in the glamorized Hollywood film Pretty Woman, the girls in Girls Without Tomorrow find little hope or romance in their occupation, and instead find themselves drifting towards a sad, inexorable, but undeniably compelling fate.
