YesAsia Editorial Description
The team behind the international hit Shall We Dance? brings us Give It All, an inspiring, heartwarming tale of an ordinary girl who conquers trying odds to achieve her goals. Popular starlet Rena Tanaka stars as Etsuko, an average teenager saddled with a personal illness, as well as numerous circumstances that seem intent on keeping her down. Etsuko lives in the shadow of her brilliant older sister, and finds little teacher support thanks to her poor grades. Her one inspiration: to row for the school rowing team, which is composed entirely of boys. Denied membership in their club, she forms her own female rowing team and challenges the odds!
Give It All mines familiar film territory, as it tells a tale of growing up, and trying your hardest to achieve your personal goals. But director Isomura Itsumichi convinces with realistic characters, beautiful cinematography and a wonderful central performance from Rena Tanaka, who won many "acting newcomer" awards at various film festivals worldwide. A rich film filled with drama, comedy, and identifiable emotions, Give It All will charm and inspire young and old viewers alike!

Inspiring slice of life
|
I knew nothing about this movie when I bought it except that it was a product of Fuji Television which makes some of my favorite Japanese movies. The film is an inspiring slice of life centered around a young girl's journey through High School via a losing girls rowing team and their efforts to "Give It All" to improve. The movie has a good blend of humor and drama; it is beautifully filmed and I suspect that one of the screenwriters must have lived a good portion of this wonderful slice of life. In the United State we have some great movies produced by The Hallmark Hall Of Fame, and I am beginning to believe that Fuji Television is Japan's equivalent in excellence. |
