火曜日の女シリーズ第29弾として、1973年2月にスタートしたこの作品は、倉本聰のオリジナル脚本を恩地日出夫が監督。作品としては、誘拐事件により平和な家庭が倒壊していく、いかにも倉本的な内容。緻密に練られた脚本と、恩地監督によるスリリングな演出が、見る者を倉本ワールドに引き込んでいく、シリーズ中屈指の傑作です。 夫の海外出張中に起きた、次男の誘拐事件をきっかけに、裕福で平和な家庭が崩壊し、主人公の冴子（岸田今日子）が異常な事件に巻き込まれていく・・・。 ※「火曜日の女シリーズ」とは・・・1969年〜1973年までNTV系で放送された“日本初”ともいえる本格的ミステリドラマシリーズ。1時間枠連続ドラマシリーズで、1作品は6〜7話で完結する仕組み。ナレーターは矢島正明、音楽は佐藤允彦や大野雄二が担当するなど、今でも十分通用する一流のつくりになっています。原作、脚本のレベルもハイレベルであり、現在でもファンの間では語り継がれる伝説のシリーズです。73年に放送終了後は、放送日を土曜日に変更し「土曜日の女」シリーズとして続きました。このシリーズが後の、「火曜サスペンス劇場」になりました。
