Not as Indie, but still Great..

I loved their collection, Indigo Suite. I was however expecting a more indie sound for this album. Songs seem to be fast and upbeat, with less guitars and more mixes. Sometimes it's danceable and toe-tapping. Swing music seem to be heard quite often. It's still great regardless of my initial expectations. Definitely a lot better than your usual J-pop music (then again, I wouldn't really categorize the Indigo as J-pop). They've got a unique style and Miki Taoka's voice is just undeniably beautiful. |

Not as good as I hoped.
| I had little idea of who The Indigo were before their emergence on the anime music scene with the excellent 'Namo Shirenu Hana'. Since then they've released a greatest hits collection which was fantastic; and produced a couple more catchy singles in 'Under the Blue Sky' and the lead single off Glider, 'Sweet Radio' (which is catchy as hell and is still stuck in my head. The rest of the album however, is somewhat unmemorable as one track blends into the next and you won't remember what you've heard after it ends. This is an album which requires repeated listenings in order to really get to grips with it. The material on this album seems to take more of a R n B/soul direction compared to previous singles and while this can pay off with the likes of 'Sunday Morning' and 'Samishisa no Katari', I can't say that songs like 'Mermaid' or 'Daydream' were anywhere near great. As an album, it's coherent and fits well, but it just doesn't really stick around in the mind very long. Proceed with caution. |
