GO daisuki
|
This movie isn't the best I've seen, honestly. The paradox is that this happens to be my favorite movie of all time at the moment! This is the only movie I've ever seen with an ending that actually made me feel good! Calmi Couri Apassionatte for example had an overly good ending--sort of sappy and corny. Other movies with a good ending seem to leave you wanting more. This movie, however, has the absolute perfect ending. It's touching, sweet, believable, and not overly sweetened. The ending also makes it the perfect Christmas movie too! |

Very Interesting!

I really liked this movie! I thought it was very well made and drew me into the story a great deal. Lots of neat stuff to think about while you watch it and leaves you thinking about it even after the movie is over. |

This is a Brilliant film which was well directed and the leading role was well performed by Yousuke Kubozuka and I would recommend this film to anyone even if you are not a fan of his. |

Excellent all around ...

Go is a film that holds a spot at the top of my Japanese cinema collection, and a film that will earn it's way to yours. While some may say that Kobozuwa Yousuke's performance of a Korean coming of age in Japan is somewhat dry; many will not notice. It may not be a groundbreaking portrayal, but Kobozuwa holds true to the film; and Sugihara's struggle can be felt throughout. Acting aside, you can't escape the epic story told by Isao combining many popular ideas and literature with some subtle symbolism. Whether you watch the move for fun, or watch the movie to think, Isao's hand plays across the screen wonderfully. Combined with a refreshing outlook on cinematography, Isao composites works like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, that's impact can be seen throughout the film. While much more lighthearted than Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the film holds to that basis. This well-rounded work will both have you smiling, and feeling for the struggle of the two protagonists of the story. Kou Shibasaki does a wonderful job portraying Sakurai, and will up Gos acting caliber. Also brandishing an excellent soundtrack, this movie will find its way to your frequently played list?of your DVD collection. |

Good Movie.

At first, the movie might seem a little weird, but you will slowly become absorbed into the story. All in all, a pretty damn good film, leaving you feel like you've watched something special. |

Pretty Good
|
I really liked this movie, the first half was quite entertaining with all the flashbacks and havoc that was being wreaked. The only reason I didn't give this a perfect score was because it got pretty slow in the 2nd half of the movie. It's still a fantastic movie and definitely worthy of a buy. |

I can't really say I liked this movie. But I guess it's worth seeing. Especially if you are korean and want to get a peak of what japanese people think being korean is all about in japan. I didn't appreciate some of the korean stereotypes portrayed in the movie like the tons of scenes in which korean men beat students or son or whatever. I really didn't like the end of the movie in which he denounces his heritage and declares himself a lion. Don't worry, I am not giving anything away. It's all pretty obvious. |

impressive
|
This was quite an impressive film. It shows how even in this day and age, Japan is still somewhat insular. However, there does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I thought that this was enunciated well with banter between the protaganist and the Japanese cop who wasn't even aware of the laws concerning foreign citizens (you'll have to see for yourself). It is a relatively simple/universal theme of racism, but taken from a Japanese perspective. It does have a pretty touching love story as well, and a good chunk of comedy, but I believe that you would be robbing yourself to focus too closely on this during the first viewing; maybe on the 2nd. I was a bit skeptical at first, but now I am glad that I made this purchase. I would highly recommend this film to pretty much anyone. |

Best Japanese Movie in 2001

I actually saw this movie when it came out in Japan, and was there when the movie and Kubozuka won many many many awards. Good story line, good acting, good movie! |
