YesAsia Editorial Description

Before he swept the world by storm in such box office mega hits as Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, Hong Kong superstar Stephen Chow starred in the popular God of Cookery, a similarly hilarious underdog story of one chef's fall from grace, and his glorious - and highly comic - bid for redemption! Co-directed by Chow and Lee Lik Chi, this uproarious 1996 comedy centers on Sik San (Stephen Chow), the self-proclaimed God of Cookery. It seems Sik San has built a reputation as Hong Kong's top chef, but the truth of the matter is - it's all a scam. Unfortunately for Sik San, his penchant for mistreating his employees backfires horribly, as he ends up losing everything when Bull Tong (Vincent Kok), an ambitious young chef, betrays him in order to take up the mantle of Hong Kong's best restaurateur.

With Bull Tong now instated as the new God of Cookery, the disgraced Sik San hits rock bottom on Temple Street. Luckily for him, a not-so-attractive street vendor named Sister Turkey (Karen Mok, from So Close) decides to take Sik San in and whip him back into shape. Thanks to an innovative culinary beef ball invention that has to be seen to be believed, the two newfound friends end up starting a successful business, a little fact which ends up grabbing the attention of the covetous Bull Tong. Of course, it isn't long before our hero has to challenge the poseur for his title as the best of the best. But before he can enter the competition, Sik San heads to the Shaolin Temple, hoping to learn the secret art of culinary kung fu! But will Sik San make it to the ultimate cooking contest in time to reclaim his title? Find out in God of Cookery, a fast-paced, riotously funny comedy that earned co-star Karen Mok a nomination for Best Actress at both the Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Awards.

Just ordered this dvd a few days ago so i havent seen it yet, but i dont think this /New Version/ will be much differ from the `old` one.But i look forward 2 receiving it anyways.

I dont have much 2 say about this movie other than its 2 FUNNY 2 watch!! especially the first part of the movie. The 2nd is also funny but not as `refined` as the 1nd part. Have seen it quiet a few times and it always makes me laugh.
The actors/actress performence is just brilliant!, but of coz Stephen Chow is the main attraction. Even though its quiet an old movie it can still keep up with the ~nowadays~, mainly if we are talking about comedy movies thats what i think atleast. ~ / think i got almost all of S.C`s movies or as far as i can recall...
Dont want 2 write anymore, got 2 have something 2 eat now, im hungry!!
Bu before i go ill share some words with you, and that is:
-ngoh tau yeon?-, -g..gg..g..giem kiu-, - taanh mat ye, kau mai yat tai tou lai liu ngau yuen a ban!-, -HEY UFO!-

Brill Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
There is some sort of storyline in this, but missing the beautiful ladies in all of Stephen's films! However, the comedy is just brill in this...once again with the Shaolin incorporated with the humour in this film! Excellent cause it made me laugh...and I don't like to cook! TR

This is a really great movie!! It stands up there along with another of his movies, "God of Gamblers 2." After the movie, I had to get the dish he made at the end!! I recommend this movie to everyone especially those who love to cook and laugh!
