Better than the USA DVD
|
This R3 HK DVD is much better than the USA DVD. The video quality is a lot sharper and cleaner. It features full bit rate DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, while the USA only had 1/2 bit rate DTS and Dolby. Video was encoded near the maximum rate, like SuperBit. It doesn't have any extras, but the presentation is phenonemanl. I liked the movie when I saw the USA DVD, but the quality wasn't that great. This DVD was much more enjoyable. Note: there are several parts of this movie where characters speak in different languages. The gods talk to each other in Egyptian, the alien creature with a hammer head speaks its own language, and two characters speak French at the end. You have to turn on the subtitles manually in these sections. The USA DVD was similar, only it just had closed captions for the hearing impaired. It's a little annoying, but once you get used to it, you won't need the subtitles. |

Great Movie!
Great Movie!
|
This movie was an excellent adaptation of Enki Bilal's work onto the screen. Anyone familiar with his artwork and illustrated stories will appreciate this combination of live acting and digital animmation. The story is derived from the "Nikopol Trilogy", which can still be purchased from most large book suppliers, if anyone would like to familiarize themselves with the format. I really enjoyed it and advise it to anyone interested in sci-fi which is a little avant-garde. It reminded me a little of "Heavy Metal" and "Blade Runner". The story if reflected on will provoke some thoughtful ideas about society and what really makes us what we are, and about cultural clash of old and new ideas. |
